eh it’s legal medically in some form in the entire northeast. although who knows what the uptick in highway ice activity means

strike “medically” from that sentence

I lived in WA, 8 miles from Idaho, for years and there were always at least half ID plates in the weed store parking lots. Since I left there’s a new store half a mile over the border inside Washington as a giant middle finger to Idaho.

If they wanted to the cops could spend all day every day busting people but I really think they just sort of gave up.

carne, I'm going to San Francisco in November and have been giving this some thought. Any tips on discrete travel?

Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Wednesday, 27 June 2018 13:49 (five years ago) link

package it with aromatic toiletries to minimize the smell. wrap it in clothes. tsa is actually not authorized to check for weed although with jeff “lock up anyone darker than me” sessions in illegitimate power who knows

maura, Wednesday, 27 June 2018 13:51 (five years ago) link

also edibles don’t really smell strong depending on what you get! the weediest smelling thing i bought at uncle ike’s a few months back was the bag of peanut butter cups. i just stuck
the bag in my laundry

maura, Wednesday, 27 June 2018 13:52 (five years ago) link

God is Uncle Ike’s a big tourist draw now??

devops mom (silby), Wednesday, 27 June 2018 14:00 (five years ago) link

Better to carry on or put in checked bag?

like others said the most discreet is vape pens and edibles, When i travel for work i take a vape pen in my carry on all the time even internationaly. When i'm coming back from CA and im bring a lot of stuff to stock up on i will put it in my check bag .

(•̪●) (carne asada), Wednesday, 27 June 2018 14:12 (five years ago) link

i feel like the TSA doesn't give two shits about it. they have looked at my vape pen more than once and just shrugged it off.

(•̪●) (carne asada), Wednesday, 27 June 2018 14:14 (five years ago) link

Cool, I'm trying to get caught up on all the new tech. I'm pretty much a weed luddite.

Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Wednesday, 27 June 2018 14:14 (five years ago) link

I went to meet my wife at the airport a couple of months ago and she asked me to bring an edible for her since she'd've been stuck on a plane for hours and then have to get a train home from the airport. I was a bit nervous about it but brought it anyway then got to almost void my bowels when I had to go past 2 sets of sniffer dogs to get to the arrivals area. The second dog actually came right up to me and sniffed my leg but didn't bark. I assume they were probably bomb dogs not drug dogs but still. I won't be doing that again.

A few weeks ago I was sitting by myself on a train, at a table of four, when three other people came and sat down in the empty seats around me. One of the guys took off his coat - he was a policeman, in full uniform. In my bag I had a nice portion of VERY stinky skunk - thankfully, encased in one of these smelly bags. So the pigs were cool.

Ward Fowler, Wednesday, 27 June 2018 14:18 (five years ago) link

I've used those smelly proof bags before, pretty good. My current dealer just uses jiffy bags made for coffee beans and they work great.

Colonel Poo, Wednesday, 27 June 2018 14:20 (five years ago) link

there's a great (possibly apocryphal) story about this little convenience store in some tiny Northern California town that had the Ziploc corporate people come visit them because they were the nation's leading sellers of "turkey bags" - normally used for baking turkeys in ovens but also good for smell. "What's your secret?" the Ziploc people asked. Pretty sure they got some mumbled half-hearted "not sure" as a response.

sleeve, Wednesday, 27 June 2018 14:42 (five years ago) link

I asked about edibles that looked like pills before and the person at the store said “oh planning on flying somewhere eh?”. They were unlabeled gel caps I stashed them with my vitamins and it was totally stealthy.

This backfired in Colorado when I bought pill looking ones that sadly had THC stamped into them

one of the few 21st century inventions that if you showed it to high school/college me it'd blow my mind.
Assume TSA doesn't care about them cause it's clearly personal use only and a small amount at that.

Some airlines forbid checking lithium-ion batteries into luggage, and as an example, I've seen signs at BOS to alert passengers.

Ergo, the thing to do if you check luggage is to put your vape cartridge into your checked bag and carry the igniter portion of the vape right through security. Thanks to e-cigs, those are totally legal and ubiquitous.

I've never done it, but I have tons of friends who have zero fears whatsoever about carrying hash oil onto planes.

Joe Gargan (dandydonweiner), Wednesday, 27 June 2018 16:11 (five years ago) link

yeah don't put l-ion batteries in your checked luggage

sleeve, Wednesday, 27 June 2018 16:16 (five years ago) link

or i don't even take my battery if i'm flying somewhere i know i can pick one up for $15 at .

Col Poo - I'm guessing your edibles are home-made brownies or cookies, not lozenges or mints or gummies that a) don't smell and b) come individually sealed in plastic anyway. It's really no big deal to fly within or out of the States with a bunch of weed in the 2010s.

For real though?

calstars, Wednesday, 27 June 2018 18:56 (five years ago) link

my sis walked right past a TSA dog with a bag of gummies in her purse and nothing happened (not sure what the deal is with those dogs, if they're only trained on explosives or some drugs but not weed or whatever)

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Wednesday, 27 June 2018 19:04 (five years ago) link

I think TSA is only concerned about weapons and shit. if they happen to come across some weed they sometimes ignore it or else call the local authorities but it's not their thing , most i assume are on drugs themselves.

(•̪●) (carne asada), Wednesday, 27 June 2018 19:15 (five years ago) link

lol yeah nbd they will just call the local authorities

idk it depends where you are at i only say this becasue my friend got his shit taken and just a scolding from the cops trying to fly out of LA and this was before rec was lagal , He had his med card .

(•̪●) (carne asada), Wednesday, 27 June 2018 19:22 (five years ago) link

xp except bringing personal use edibles or vape pen is not "trafficking drugs"

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Wednesday, 27 June 2018 19:26 (five years ago) link

Man at Reagan airport, I got questioned for 30 minutes, had to strip down most of my clothing because one dude was certain I had weed on me, I have never even used weed in my life, I wouldn't risk it at all.

Van Horn Street, Wednesday, 27 June 2018 19:26 (five years ago) link

Im by no means saying it's a free pass but i travel a fair amount and pretty much always carry. the first few times i was definitly sketched but i for reals don't even think much about it anymore. obv vape and edibles is easier then flowers

two weeks pass...
two weeks pass...

Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance, Jr., today released the D.A.’s Office’s new policy to decline to prosecute marijuana possession and smoking cases, effective tomorrow, August 1. The policy, which is included below, is expected to reduce Manhattan marijuana prosecutions from approximately 5,000 per year to fewer than 200 per year, a 96% reduction.

“Every day I ask our prosecutors to keep Manhattan safe and make our justice system more equal and fair,” said District Attorney Vance. “The needless criminalization of pot smoking frustrates this core mission, so we are removing ourselves from the equation. Our research has found virtually no public safety rationale for the ongoing arrest and prosecution of marijuana smoking, and no moral justification for the intolerable racial disparities that underlie enforcement. Tomorrow, our Office will exit a system wherein smoking a joint can ruin your job, your college application, or your immigration status, but our advocacy will continue. I urge New York lawmakers to legalize and regulate marijuana once and for all.”

The D.A.’s new “decline to prosecute” policy was distributed last week to Manhattan Assistant D.A.s, as well as to the New York City Police Department, Office of Court Administration, and public defense organizations.
