i'm guessing the caution has to do with the fact that this is some anonymous Twitter account ? I mean this seems pretty believable to me, I don't really know jack about Tool but even I know the stories surrounding Maynard which are very very similar to this one.

Yeah, it's possible some outlets are trying to get in touch, hear from MJK's reps, whatever. I noticed Kim Kelly mentioned it on her feed so it's definitely getting out there.

also that, plus the fact that tool is kind of outside the purview of a lot of music sites these days

A reporter would probably want to speak to the tweeter (even if agreeing to keep her anonymous) before writing it up. The fact that she doesn't name the city also complicates things, as a reporter can't put the musician's reps on the spot re: what he remembers doing during NiN's set that year in that particular city, etc. But, again, this may also inspire others to come forward (on the record).

Also maybe someone in his organization, who was aware of the behavior, will come forward.

Passes for Maynard are different than the normal backstage pass for the show. A couple examples I can think of (and one I own that I received personally when they were out of normal ones) has a collage of women in KISS makeup sucking dick or other sexual acts. An APC one had a picture of Maynard in Roman garb that said "Have you serviced your gladiator today?" or something similar. There are no illusions about what you are there for.

So basically someone (also anonymous) responded to the Keenan accuser’s Twitter claiming they were raped by Trent Reznor in 1994. Thing is, both accounts were created within an hour of each other. And strangely the Reznor accuser’s account (which has no other tweets) was actually created just *before* the Keenan one.

After people started noticing this the Reznor accuser account deleted their comment. Not definitive proof but it seems fishy and indicates an attempt to create an impression of support and to sow further chaos.

I’ve heard rumblings about this being 4chan related—the Keenan account wasn’t noticed by most people for days but supposedly there was stuff about it in 4chan almost immediately after it went up. If you’re wondering about the kind of sick fucks who actually would go out of their way to set all this up, there’s your answer.

In any case it’s ugly business all around.
