I found these a while ago...can't remember where. They were not as thrilling as I'd hoped they'd be.

the pod demos are fantastic! i like 'en a little more than the album, but really, is there anything that Kim Deal does that isn't pure awesomeness???

voted Iris bcz I used to play the live version off of No Alternative when wanting to piss my quadmates off.

'en = 'em

Ugh, I should have placed my vote for Metal Man. I'm kinda stunned that "Lime House" didn't place.

i didn't vote. i just couldn't decide.

jed_, Monday, 30 June 2008 09:13 (fifteen years ago) link

Didn't know this ended at the weekend. Would probably have voted Lime House if I'd checked in yesterday, as it was in my head all day Saturday. But I'm happy to see Doe at the top.

Really hot in the nineties....not in the mood for it now.

cecelia, Monday, 30 June 2008 13:52 (fifteen years ago) link

To be fair, Doe is a worthy winner

not surprised that about 15 people bothered to vote for a washed up alcoholic's band that did 2 good covers...

would also just like to point out that that's a completely retarded opinion.

Surmounter, Friday, 26 September 2008 01:53 (fifteen years ago) link

PS might have been on this thread someone told me to listen to electrelane? and another friend had told me, didn't realize he had until i actually looked them up. had a song on my comp already. anyway, they're great.

Surmounter, Friday, 26 September 2008 01:53 (fifteen years ago) link

No 'Lime House' votes, huh - wow

I might have, but I couldn't stop myself from voting "Oh!"

one year passes...

i wonder how this record would sound with a different production. "last splash" style for example.

it's just that the Steve Albini production that was so refreshing and cool in 1990, now sounds...dated or overused?

Zeno, Saturday, 4 September 2010 16:50 (thirteen years ago) link

i just think this production is so clean, and simple. doesn't seem dated or ... anything, really

just simple

janice (surm), Saturday, 4 September 2010 16:52 (thirteen years ago) link

lets the songs speak for themselves

janice (surm), Saturday, 4 September 2010 16:53 (thirteen years ago) link

it sounds like a mellower Fugazi, or PJ harvey Rid Of Me area - which is no surprising.

(i do like this record, just for the record.)

Zeno, Saturday, 4 September 2010 16:57 (thirteen years ago) link

i don't know those records, but if that is stripped down, treble-rich minimalism, i have no problem with it

janice (surm), Saturday, 4 September 2010 17:03 (thirteen years ago) link

perfecting day to listen to glorious today

janice (surm), Saturday, 4 September 2010 17:04 (thirteen years ago) link

*perfect ...

janice (surm), Saturday, 4 September 2010 17:04 (thirteen years ago) link

last splash production is definitely what seemed more "of the trend" at the time. i'm sure that is all debatable now.

janice (surm), Saturday, 4 September 2010 17:06 (thirteen years ago) link

maybe it's just me and my recent "Steve Albini backlash" phase

Zeno, Saturday, 4 September 2010 17:09 (thirteen years ago) link

If only Steve Hillage had produced this record.

WARS OF ARMAGEDDON (Karaoke Version) (Sparkle Motion), Monday, 6 September 2010 13:41 (thirteen years ago) link

one year passes...

I wrote about 'Pod' after taking it along to a recent Devon Record Club night. I think it's the best thing Kim Deal ever did, excepting Surfer Rosa. My post is here: http://bit.ly/LwTBVW

TAR BABY

cwkiii, Friday, 12 October 2012 15:28 (eleven years ago) link

"Opened" and "Metal Man" are the only songs on this that I cannot see myself voting for on any given day.

cwkiii, Friday, 12 October 2012 15:35 (eleven years ago) link

lime house is a banger

surm, Friday, 12 October 2012 15:40 (eleven years ago) link

eleven months pass...

I'm moving house and all my "current" LPs are safely stored in boxes, I pulled Pod with a few others out of a less sellotaped box for some nostalgic entertainment tonight and this is a fucking great record. Not heard it for a long, long time. It's interesting how like Slint some of the guitar playing is.

Kim's voice is.. tasty

No votes for Limehouse - wtf - that was always my favourite tune!

kraudive, Saturday, 5 October 2013 23:14 (ten years ago) link

lol I've been listening to the Pod Demos lately, and "Limehouse" feels like one of the standout tracks on there
