Makes me act all crazy. Trump reminds me of my father. Really gets to me.

Go sleep it off, Larry.

Rep. Bob Excellentfrappuccino (Old Lunch), Friday, 22 June 2018 03:03 (five years ago) link

^ sounds like a highly researched and tested plan that's bound to be successful

A is for (Aimless), Friday, 22 June 2018 03:03 (five years ago) link

idk when Bannon explains that they enacted the travel ban on a Friday afternoon to draw the maximum amount of protestors and Miller talks about how having Kiddie Concentration Camp all over the news is actually good for them it kinda makes me think that these guys may be doing this kind of shit deliberately

I mean I highly doubt that Melania is in on it but this jacket thing is just so mindboggling and strange given how deliberate it obviously was

frogbs, Friday, 22 June 2018 03:04 (five years ago) link

Occam would suggest: Melania is a monster.

Rep. Bob Excellentfrappuccino (Old Lunch), Friday, 22 June 2018 03:10 (five years ago) link

I'm just glad we can finally, once and for all, put that "maybe she's secretly decent" shit behind us for fucking ever.

Simon H., Friday, 22 June 2018 03:11 (five years ago) link

it is important to this administration that Americans remain as divided as possible

cr.ht (crüt), Friday, 22 June 2018 03:12 (five years ago) link

Melania is basically Carmella Soprano. She may not be the one who's pulling the trigger but she sure has enjoyed the fruits of that trigger pulling.

Rep. Bob Excellentfrappuccino (Old Lunch), Friday, 22 June 2018 03:18 (five years ago) link

Godspeed to everyone out there doxing ICE agents, setting up shop in their field offices and obstructing their operations

Simon H., Friday, 22 June 2018 03:19 (five years ago) link

xp - except all the real fruits she enjoyed were well in place before Trump declared his candidacy. reports that she hates the WH and being FLOTUS seem very believable.

A is for (Aimless), Friday, 22 June 2018 03:20 (five years ago) link

Until or unless she literally curb stomps Donnie boy no one should give a fuck about her imho

Simon H., Friday, 22 June 2018 03:23 (five years ago) link

She is, by design, extremely peripheral to this administration, so yeah, whatever she is or does is probably beneath notice in terms of real US politics.

A is for (Aimless), Friday, 22 June 2018 03:25 (five years ago) link

Her primary utility AFAICT is as a galvanizing icon of sociopathic obliviousness so maybe she should just keep it up

Simon H., Friday, 22 June 2018 03:28 (five years ago) link

They obviously want to make the midterms about immigration/white fear because they 100% believe that's how they won two years ago and they don't understand it was ~also electoral college + Comey. Between now and November that administration is going to trigger plenty of shit of the kind we saw in the past few days, wouldn't be surprised if the african american crime rate is the next thing they will get at for example. It works because Fox has their back no matter what at this point, it keeps that fuckface on 24/7 news cycle, and it keeps the base motivated enough to have leadership GOP on the defensive (who wants to be the next Sanford). No healthy democracy should have such a thing as a large Trump base, to begin with so in normal circumstances it would be a stupid plan, but let's not pretend like they didn't struck gold and they don't have monstrous calculations on how to mine racism and xenophobia in the coming months/years for their benefits. Melania may be in or out of these calculations with her jacket moment (I think she was fwiw), it doesn't matter as much as the White House refusing to make a clear apology and them once again mining the moment and portraying Melania as some sort of conspiracy victim.

Van Horn Street, Friday, 22 June 2018 03:54 (five years ago) link

good post, thanks

It’s kind of dumb to be like ‘immigrants worked minus my faith in the democratic strictures of an oligarchy’ re trump maybe they’ll hit black on black crime again for a greatest hits redux.’

Two things: immigrants aren’t going away, for either the right or the left. Dox ICE on your way to abolishing them. Write on their Facebook pages; their wives’ twitter; their registries. Worry their grandparents.

Second: That middle ground between 5d chess and dumbfoubdery is latching on to a faceless El Salvadoran who can be whoever the country wants: ms13; hope. That chimera has no longer and hasn’t been for some time a super predator in Chi. This is Trump’s play.

Either way, THE DISCOURSE eats its children — it’s a fucking shame that so many are children. Ramp it up, don’t stop, eat DHS.

lion in winter, I can't even imagine what your emotional state must be like at this point, but you're doing heroic work that is greatly appreciated. I greatly appreciate it.

(Mods, is there a way to automatically affix a '(Note: lion in winter is an immigration lawyer in 2018, simultaneous with the presidency of Donald Trump.)' tagline to lion in winter's posts so I can stop getting so IA when someone inevitably responds to him with snark or dismissiveness?)

A little extra background on Zara, makers of Melania's amazing lib-triggering dreamcoat:

• They had to recall a denim skirt that had a Pepe frog on it
• They had to recall a striped shirt with a six-pointed yellow star on the chest
• Jared Kushner owes Zara's parent company, Inditex, a lot of money - they have an interest in 666 Fifth Avenue

grawlix (unperson), Friday, 22 June 2018 12:04 (five years ago) link

Zara is also a notorious knockoff fast-fashion label that steals from artists all the time because they (the smaller artists) rarely have the ability to sue

Republicans should stop wasting their time on Immigration until after we elect more Senators and Congressmen/women in November. Dems are just playing games, have no intention of doing anything to solves this decades old problem. We can pass great legislation after the Red Wave!

I don't know about 4D chess but every time they manage to divert everybody's attention to some witless malfeasance that would seem like a gradeschool, Politics 101 to avoid there seems to be something else they are trying to get done in the background.

Good. More of that. And if they think this will just get better when this is over, they should be made wrong.

Was reading a good thread about Ivanka the other day, asking if she is jus deluded, and somehow thinks she really is thought of as reasonable, respected, or smart, or successful, and that this is all just a bad storm that will blow over and allow her to rejoin society as anything less than a pariah. These people are all going to hell, years before they die.

As I said before all the field ICE/border patrol I have met had histories of domestic abuse/violence allegations. I am sure if they abolish ICE, they can find jobs at their local PD.

x-post -- from Alfred's farm bill link

The House farm bill would also tighten eligibility criteria under SNAP — changes that would result in some 400,000 households losing SNAP benefits. Thousands of children would also risk losing their enrollment in free and reduced-price school meal programs.

curmudgeon, Friday, 22 June 2018 13:55 (five years ago) link

I did secret/top secret/sci background checks for several years (irs, dea, fdic, national labs, military, border patrol, ICE, etc). And after 9/11 when they were hiring like crazy. It's complete bullshit that they let the administration/Kushner get away with lying on their forms so many times. We always told them to bring their passports to interviews so we could be sure of dates.

Yerac, Friday, 22 June 2018 13:59 (five years ago) link

not sure we have a "marketing revolution" threa so I'm just gonna leave this here:

Comrades, we've got the guillotine.

This handcrafted pendant is perfect for that special revolutionary in your life. Each pendant is a single piece of solid sterling silver, to ensure its strength and durability, specially cast from a hand-fabricated, hand-textured model. The pendant is then oxidized and polished to bring out the fine wood-grain texture of the scaffolding, after which it is attached to a gorgeous 18" sterling silver chain with a toggle clasp. It will truly be the pièce de résistance of your jewelry collection. Resist in style.

Matching earrings available soon!

The *very* *petit* bourgeoisie better run. Off with their heads! Vive la Commune!

Is this the bill (SNAP) that had work requirements if your area had lower unemployment rates? ie. urban areas have lower unemployment so there are work requirements. Rural areas did not. You can guess the demographics.

I heard a great prediction of Trumps post-Trump from one of the Crooked Media guys, centered on Ivanka but applicable to all. Before all this Ivanka was useless but tolerated, like a lot of rich people. Rich now she is useful, but toxic. Post Trump, she and others will be useless *and* toxic, which will be new territory for these assholes.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 22 June 2018 14:35 (five years ago) link

one of the friends of Fox and Friends had this to say this morning:

“We can’t let everybody in that wants to be here. These are not, like it or not, these aren’t our kids. Show them compassion. But it’s not like he is doing this to the people of Idaho or Texas. These are people from another country and now people are saying that they are more important than people in our country who are paying taxes and who have needs as well.”
