Mexico look long also

A Warning to the Karius (Bananaman Begins), Tuesday, 19 June 2018 11:31 (five years ago) link

Mexico were 100/1 last week.

Wag1 Shree Rajneesh (ShariVari), Tuesday, 19 June 2018 11:33 (five years ago) link

33/1 on Colombia isn’t bad.

Wag1 Shree Rajneesh (ShariVari), Tuesday, 19 June 2018 11:34 (five years ago) link

now Kane seems to been pondering the historical significance of the region, perhaps he could go bone-hunting at some of the local Wehrmacht death field sites - The Sun would love it!

Were England always rated ahead of Portugal or does beating Tunisia 2-1 in the last minute always trump drawing 3-3 with Spain?

We can be herpes (Tom D.), Tuesday, 19 June 2018 11:41 (five years ago) link

The odds are driven by bets placed rather than any critical thinking so England always have shorter odds than you'd expect

groovypanda, Tuesday, 19 June 2018 11:45 (five years ago) link

Yeah English bookies have never put them over 18/1 to win anything iirc.

nashwan, Tuesday, 19 June 2018 11:47 (five years ago) link

If the bookies put them at evens, you'd get mug punters taking it, going "YAY WE'RE GONNA WIN" and that.

Mark G, Tuesday, 19 June 2018 11:50 (five years ago) link

Would love to see Japan and Senegal get something today.

nashwan, Tuesday, 19 June 2018 11:51 (five years ago) link

How does Denmark have better odds than Switzerland?

Frederik B, Tuesday, 19 June 2018 11:52 (five years ago) link

Christian Eriksen plays for the Spurs, duh.

We can be herpes (Tom D.), Tuesday, 19 June 2018 11:54 (five years ago) link

More players in the PL maybe xp lol

nashwan, Tuesday, 19 June 2018 11:55 (five years ago) link

xxp
probably because somebody in Basildon just put £2.50 each way on Denmark just as the odds were refreshed.

calzino, Tuesday, 19 June 2018 11:57 (five years ago) link

I imagine it will take twenty years before someone from the poetic end of the football writing community eulogises the loved lost liminal seconds between the ball hitting the net and the disembodied approval from the VAR car, that thrilling suspension between scored and not-scored which was the most golden of all footballing moments.

finally a var post that delivers

ogmor, Tuesday, 19 June 2018 12:02 (five years ago) link

that bet was me, i wanted to rile fred and visit basildon at the same time xp

mark s, Tuesday, 19 June 2018 12:03 (five years ago) link

Ugh this weird FIFA rule where the 'away' team can't just wear their away shorts with their home shirt so instead the home team has to wear their third or even fourth choice of shorts and socks. Happening in most of the games. Lots of money spent on kit designs the teams can't even wear.

nashwan, Tuesday, 19 June 2018 12:04 (five years ago) link

Disaster!

Wag1 Shree Rajneesh (ShariVari), Tuesday, 19 June 2018 12:05 (five years ago) link

Ha amazing

nashwan, Tuesday, 19 June 2018 12:05 (five years ago) link

Wow!

groovypanda, Tuesday, 19 June 2018 12:06 (five years ago) link

We're about to witness a textbook 'how not to play against ten men' from Japan here

imago, Tuesday, 19 June 2018 12:10 (five years ago) link

genuinely enjoying the ESL commentators for FS1 on this match, it's all the fun of Mexi-Spanish commentary without feeling like I only understand every second or third phrase

also a lot of random stereotypical Japanese like "gambate!" and "Kagawa-san"

I want to change my display name (dan m), Tuesday, 19 June 2018 12:17 (five years ago) link

what's poor c sanchez doing right now? in the shower? staring at the floor?

ogmor, Tuesday, 19 June 2018 12:26 (five years ago) link

'Absolute mayhem'

Colombia 0-1 Japan

Leon Osman

Former Everton midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

Japan need to be wary - Colombia's players are swarming the referee trying to get the numbers even.

It's absolute mayhem. It's end-to-end. Both teams are trying to counter- attack each other. Both sets of players are going down easily, a moment ago it looked like we had more players lying on the floor than standing.

Please tell me this isn't as good as Leon makes it out to be, stuck at work here.

lbi's life of limitless european glamour (Le Bateau Ivre), Tuesday, 19 June 2018 12:36 (five years ago) link

It’s a bit of an exaggeration but a good game none the less.

Wag1 Shree Rajneesh (ShariVari), Tuesday, 19 June 2018 12:36 (five years ago) link

incredible dive from falcao

ogmor, Tuesday, 19 June 2018 12:39 (five years ago) link

Game back on.

Wag1 Shree Rajneesh (ShariVari), Tuesday, 19 June 2018 12:40 (five years ago) link

this is the sort of low quality game we can all enjoy

ogmor, Tuesday, 19 June 2018 12:41 (five years ago) link

Osman makes it sound like the Sgt. Biscuits's match report.

cajunsunday, Tuesday, 19 June 2018 12:41 (five years ago) link

Straight along the floor, right under the jumping wall. Excellent.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 19 June 2018 12:43 (five years ago) link

Never a foul that led to the free kick tho

groovypanda, Tuesday, 19 June 2018 12:43 (five years ago) link

not sure i can remember a team playing for the foul as relentlessly as this

ogmor, Tuesday, 19 June 2018 12:45 (five years ago) link

they have no other idea in the final third it's absolutely shameless

ogmor, Tuesday, 19 June 2018 12:48 (five years ago) link

It wasn't a foul but it is what it is. Colombia have been good after a disaster start.

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 19 June 2018 12:54 (five years ago) link

Japan have started strong

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 19 June 2018 13:11 (five years ago) link

Colombia playing great with ten men (and no James). Good defense, esp. against Japan’s long passes.

rb (soda), Tuesday, 19 June 2018 13:17 (five years ago) link

Japan really on top rn but no finishing. Colombia could still win or get a point.

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 19 June 2018 13:19 (five years ago) link

... or lose?

Tim, Tuesday, 19 June 2018 13:21 (five years ago) link

great slow rolling by kagawa there to ensure james got a yellow

ogmor, Tuesday, 19 June 2018 13:23 (five years ago) link

yes Tim, everything is possible in this world cup :)

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 19 June 2018 13:26 (five years ago) link
