Francia looking a bit limp tbh

Roberto Spiralli, Saturday, 16 June 2018 10:48 (five years ago) link

so far France appear to be the Man Utd of international football

Number None, Saturday, 16 June 2018 10:49 (five years ago) link

Good performance from Aus that half. I would like to put it to those of you watching on the BBC that allowing Lawrenson to commentate on a game is an act of shitting on football and its fans that they wouldn't countenance in coverage of other sporting or cultural events.

cheeky Nandez (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 16 June 2018 10:49 (five years ago) link

g'warn 'stralia, fuck off + die Neville!

calzino, Saturday, 16 June 2018 10:50 (five years ago) link

I'm watching a Sony stream and the commentator is pretty good. don't know who he is

imago, Saturday, 16 June 2018 10:51 (five years ago) link

I'd love to watch some 6 Music wanker covering Glastonbury by going "these are shit, these are shit, this song's shit, look at these wankers" but somehow this is only acceptable at football games

cheeky Nandez (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 16 June 2018 10:51 (five years ago) link

You should try listening to Geoffrey Boycott commenting on any England cricket team.

I like Geoffrey :)

cheeky Nandez (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 16 June 2018 10:54 (five years ago) link

The crucial difference is Boycott is right.

We can be herpes (Tom D.), Saturday, 16 June 2018 10:55 (five years ago) link

Australian commentary is the usual blend of pessimism and bitchiness that you'd expect from the Oz Sokkah Community

Cardigan B (King Boy Pato), Saturday, 16 June 2018 10:55 (five years ago) link

I'd probably mind less if England got the same treatment, too. Nah, it's horrible, they shouldn't be allowed to show football tbh

cheeky Nandez (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 16 June 2018 10:56 (five years ago) link

Boycs may be a violent wanker but he's almost always otm and he's entertaining

imago, Saturday, 16 June 2018 10:57 (five years ago) link

Certainly one of the best performances from Ronaldo in recent years, but pundits are insufferable when it comes to making sense of what actually happened. Here on danish television the claim that he's the best free kick taker in the world was put forward several times. It was perfectly hit, but still the first one he puts away in fucking ages.

Also, the second goal was held to high acclaim for how he "provoked a mistake" from De Gea. Praising an attacker for putting it absolutely straight at the keeper? Come one.

Regarding the Spanish team, their issues are the same recurring theme from 2014 and 2016. They probably play prettier and more fluid than any club in the world, but still haven't come to the realization that football games are won and lost in singular moments. Watching them play those little triangles, overloading one area and then swiftly shifting the board and creating spaces and behind back of the portuguese was a thing of beauty. But then as soon as the momentum builds, the foot is taken slightly off the gas when it should be punched to the floor.

Milton, Saturday, 16 June 2018 10:58 (five years ago) link

now I've realised I have a choice of sports to watch Australia lose at in the twenty minutes before I have to go out and play some cricket of my own

imago, Saturday, 16 June 2018 10:59 (five years ago) link

Boycott otm, Ronaldo nothing special ur having a good morning imago

A Warning to the Karius (Bananaman Begins), Saturday, 16 June 2018 10:59 (five years ago) link

watch u don't knock over ur own stumps

A Warning to the Karius (Bananaman Begins), Saturday, 16 June 2018 11:00 (five years ago) link

ronaldo is obviously amazing and an all-time legend but he is a massive twat ffs

boycott always makes good calls about cricket itself

imago, Saturday, 16 June 2018 11:02 (five years ago) link

pax pax pax, have a good game

A Warning to the Karius (Bananaman Begins), Saturday, 16 June 2018 11:03 (five years ago) link

i'm just thankful Russia have scheduled a game i can watch before I go out, kiu Russia

imago, Saturday, 16 June 2018 11:04 (five years ago) link

Boycott is a genius pundit.

We can be herpes (Tom D.), Saturday, 16 June 2018 11:06 (five years ago) link

Obviously the football could be better but 11am on a Saturday really is a perfect WC kick-off time

Number None, Saturday, 16 June 2018 11:07 (five years ago) link

I reckon scheduling a game in prime time for Australia is some sort of worrying scheme that I'm not aware of

Cardigan B (King Boy Pato), Saturday, 16 June 2018 11:08 (five years ago) link

That's a pen

cheeky Nandez (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 16 June 2018 11:12 (five years ago) link

nashwan, Saturday, 16 June 2018 11:14 (five years ago) link

I'll put me hand up and say that wasn't too disruptive and it got the decision right

cheeky Nandez (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 16 June 2018 11:14 (five years ago) link

Pretty sure tripping somebody in the box = pen but maybe there's a new interpretation

cheeky Nandez (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 16 June 2018 11:15 (five years ago) link

Cardigan B (King Boy Pato), Saturday, 16 June 2018 11:16 (five years ago) link

Number None, Saturday, 16 June 2018 11:17 (five years ago) link
