Hey, remember Theo Walcott's kids books?

xxxxp I remember Alan Parry at the USA world cup, wondering aloud if a Saudi player named Amin was related to Idi Amin

There were no winners or losers, it was how you played the game.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 14 June 2018 21:04 (five years ago) link

thats my take but a lot of the lads are a lot more upset than is frankly seemly given our ability

According to The Guardian, there are 35,000 Peru fans there, not 15,000. Most of the reports from Muscovites I’ve seen suggest they’re the largest / most visible fan contingent by far.

Morocco vs Iran should be good. It’s a shame the (probably) best team in Africa got drawn against the best team in Asia, with neither of them likely to qualify. The Iranian guy who cuts my hair is pretty confident they can beat Portugal but is more concerned about Morocco.

always nice to start with a crude oil/crude homophobia derby!

yes - it is today we begin our campaign - and this week has been a challenge for all but i urge everyone to remain calm and support spain in an orderly fashion. in this way there will be no further unpleasantness at national or local level, and heavy-handedness will not be deemed necessary as everyone smiles and enjoys a successful world cup. that is my view, signed fernando hierro.

also speaking as hierro i recall as a young player growing up in malaga where i was told to prevent goals, that is what we hope to do tonight against our great rivals of portugal, yes they have cristiano ronaldo, however we will have 10 men plus the goalkeeper - also a man. the identity of these men will be discovered on the pitch. but also in football and life we must always create many goals.

the methods of the future are not unknown to us - yes in fact this is a team which we have chosen from several electronic databases of these players which are kept on very special computers. we hope to give our friends in portugal many questions which are unanswered. our tactics will be decided in a meeting we attend with paper folders but one way or not we will play for the duration of the match and always the main tactic will be in our hearts alone.

to the fans i would like to say simply this - i threaten you to enjoy this world cup - what is certain is that spain.

now let us as a nation move in a careful manner towards the exit of the groups.

regards,

fernando hierro

groovypanda, Friday, 15 June 2018 10:47 (five years ago) link

De Arrascaeta is starting today. He looks pretty exciting from the little I’ve seen of him.

Wag1 Shree Rajneesh (ShariVari), Friday, 15 June 2018 11:00 (five years ago) link

no odds on Suarez biting? I thought Lameo Losestone said you can 'ave millions of different jumbo-jets on facking anything you want guv!

calzino, Friday, 15 June 2018 11:28 (five years ago) link

i'm sure you can get a bet i just couldn't be bothered navigating the bookie sites

Smolov pupper (Noodle Vague), Friday, 15 June 2018 11:29 (five years ago) link

I tried it and the Suarez Specials didn't feature biting, strangling or spitting type acts of villainy odds!

Really not seeing the trezeguet resemblance

Windsor Davies, Friday, 15 June 2018 11:59 (five years ago) link

Typical Lawro bullshit, starts his prediction for this game with "it is going to be hard for Egypt to get out of this group" whereas yesterday was all "two worst teams at the tournament" and even "look, they only beat KSA."

Bimlo Horsewagon became Wheelbarrow Horseflesh (aldo), Friday, 15 June 2018 12:02 (five years ago) link

Uruguay’s national anthem is a legit Donizetti rip-off. I think it’s Lucrezia Borgia.

Wag1 Shree Rajneesh (ShariVari), Friday, 15 June 2018 12:03 (five years ago) link

Xp Fifa are unlikely to assign egypt to a different group now that the tournament has begun so lawro otm

i'm just gonna do my best to pretend the pundits and the commentators aren't there, they're unbearable already and i don't wanna spend a tournament moaning about it

Uruguay lumpen af, Egypt no cutting edge without Salah, enjoyed that half tho

calzino, Friday, 15 June 2018 12:58 (five years ago) link

amazing how many pundits think the manager doesn't matter LEAVE IT JIM THEY'RE NOT WORTH IT

Smolov pupper (Noodle Vague), Friday, 15 June 2018 13:01 (five years ago) link

that's absolute bollox, and our chairman knows it, that's why our manager Wagner is on more money than any of the players!

calzino, Friday, 15 June 2018 13:02 (five years ago) link

would suggest that Frankeneville wd have a lot less medals at home if it hadn't been for his manager

Smolov pupper (Noodle Vague), Friday, 15 June 2018 13:04 (five years ago) link

Pundits possibly otm, i'm generally against the cult of the manager in modern football
