Wolf has so much personality she doesn’t need to dun. It down. One peeve of mine is the DJ who laughs at every joke, not as bad as Baptiste on Colbert tho.

I feel like she has more of a stage to set about her brand of humor and who she is since she's not going to play it down the middle. So when she goes a bit formulaic or even "feministplainy" I cringe.

I just looked up what the show is supposed to be and it literally is just "a break" from everything else.

The two episodes I've seen she's sort of been ironic and snide about shitty jokes and segments. Like, look at us, we are doing a shitty segment. Like she is being forced to do it, like a hostage or something. But I keep thinking, no, you are choosing to do this, you are choosing to be terrible, you are choosing to be not funny, even if you laugh and wink about it if it's still your fault. It's a dead end to do something dumb on purpose just for the sake of making a joke about doing something dumb. Just be smart! Right now, straight out of the gate, it has the vibe of a show on life support, like they are running down the clock. That is not how a new show is supposed to start out.

I thought this week's epi was the weakest so far. Although I did kind of chuckle at the end of the yogurt/shed joke because it went on far too long.

last episode was the best so far. she was on fire

I've been enjoying them. Have seen up to 5, though i think 3 hasn't appeared where I'm getting them from.
Voice is still pretty shrill but i guess that's a constant.

Figured this would be a one-season wonder. Still a fan, but the show never really gelled into its own entity, nor shed its general air of desperation.

I said it on another thread but this show and the McHale show seemed sloppy. But I actually love sloppy shows on Sunday.

Considering how little these shows must've cost to make, I imagine the ratings must've been abysmal, even by Netflix standards

but yeah, the show never quite found its groove. but neither did John Oliver or Sam Bee's after six episodes

It was being torrented in a couple of ways too so wonder if their figures reflect who actually got to see it.

I just looked up when the J Oliver Miss America episode was on because I think that was when I was hooked. It was episode 18.

regardless of what anyone thinks about wolf, the partial reasons for the cancellation (poor taste abortion jokes and horrified netflix subscribers cancelling their accounts) are fucking sad. comedy is meant to offend and provoke

Saw her live in Portland a few weeks ago and she was amazing. I wish more of her brilliance would have been apparent in The Break. I suspect she wasn't ready professionally for a talk show despite her writing exp w/Meyers & the Daily Show.

Well hope it counts as a learning experience for her not as an avenue that will be closed in future to her.
I mean just hoping that it doesn't work that this not working out means less opportunities in future. I did enjoy quite a bit of this.

Oh lol yeah. There was an article I read today which I cannot find but it mentioned the abortion salute causing many to cancel or threaten cancellation of Netflix accounts.
Who knows if it was bullshit tho

i think the problem is that the abortion salute and other content would have been too edgy for the resistance type viewers the show would need to have attracted to be a success. when they go low we go high, respectability politics being a big feature of that worldview

honestly I think most people forgot who she was by the second week of the show.
