I figure it's just trying to figure out its groove right now because it definitely has some throw it at the wall bits.
I really liked that joke, because I once vomited on the door of my truck and the door ajar bell wouldn't go off for two years. I just kept driving it like that. People who rode in my car were like wtf?

I guess she is committed to having fellow comedians on as guests on the couch not being funny together. Because the Neal Brennan bit was less than not funny.

seems like this is almost always the case with new talk shows. Netflix should just start paying a new host to make like a half-dozen episodes and then throw 'em all in the trash and only start airing them after that.
― evol j, Monday, 11 June 2018 15:40 (five years ago) link
finally a female Gilbert Gottfried
― Οὖτις, Monday, 11 June 2018 15:43 (five years ago) link
I like Efrim's singing for Silver Mt. Zion so MW's voice doesn't bother me.
― Martin Landau Ballet (Leee), Monday, 11 June 2018 18:43 (five years ago) link
The writing for the third episode OTOH...
― Martin Landau Ballet (Leee), Monday, 11 June 2018 19:09 (five years ago) link
So episode 3 stinks as well? Wow.
― Josh in Chicago, Monday, 11 June 2018 19:12 (five years ago) link
Yeah, not so great honestly. I'm still on board though
― Nhex, Monday, 11 June 2018 19:15 (five years ago) link
The clip segments are fairly lame overall
Wolf has so much personality she doesn’t need to dun. It down. One peeve of mine is the DJ who laughs at every joke, not as bad as Baptiste on Colbert tho.
― Slippage (Ross), Monday, 11 June 2018 19:29 (five years ago) link
Dumb it down rather
― Slippage (Ross), Monday, 11 June 2018 19:30 (five years ago) link
I feel like she has more of a stage to set about her brand of humor and who she is since she's not going to play it down the middle. So when she goes a bit formulaic or even "feministplainy" I cringe.
― Yerac, Monday, 11 June 2018 19:33 (five years ago) link
Good point
― Slippage (Ross), Monday, 11 June 2018 19:33 (five years ago) link
I just looked up what the show is supposed to be and it literally is just "a break" from everything else.
― Yerac, Monday, 11 June 2018 19:35 (five years ago) link
The two episodes I've seen she's sort of been ironic and snide about shitty jokes and segments. Like, look at us, we are doing a shitty segment. Like she is being forced to do it, like a hostage or something. But I keep thinking, no, you are choosing to do this, you are choosing to be terrible, you are choosing to be not funny, even if you laugh and wink about it if it's still your fault. It's a dead end to do something dumb on purpose just for the sake of making a joke about doing something dumb. Just be smart! Right now, straight out of the gate, it has the vibe of a show on life support, like they are running down the clock. That is not how a new show is supposed to start out.

Josh otm
I liked bees last episode with the censor committee - bee is never too corny imo
― Slippage (Ross), Monday, 11 June 2018 19:55 (five years ago) link
New ep was better, segments were deceMichelle’s commentary was good, she’s endlessly endearing
― sunburst N snowblind (Ross), Monday, 18 June 2018 04:14 (five years ago) link
just feel like her “easy” jokes are way too easy and also not really funny?
― maura, Monday, 18 June 2018 13:42 (five years ago) link
i miss the joel mchale show
― maura, Monday, 18 June 2018 13:43 (five years ago) link
I thought this week's epi was the weakest so far. Although I did kind of chuckle at the end of the yogurt/shed joke because it went on far too long.
― Yerac, Monday, 18 June 2018 15:01 (five years ago) link
last episode was the best so far. she was on fire
― stoker (Ross), Friday, 29 June 2018 06:32 (five years ago) link
I've been enjoying them. Have seen up to 5, though i think 3 hasn't appeared where I'm getting them from.Voice is still pretty shrill but i guess that's a constant.
― Stevolende, Friday, 29 June 2018 09:11 (five years ago) link
her voice is probably subjective, but i love it
― raspberry swirl (Ross), Friday, 29 June 2018 09:11 (five years ago) link
Show cancelled.
― Josh in Chicago, Saturday, 18 August 2018 14:36 (five years ago) link
Her voice really is painful to listen to, almost like its put on
― . (Michael B), Saturday, 18 August 2018 14:45 (five years ago) link
She should co-host a podcast with Gilbert Gottfried.
― grawlix (unperson), Saturday, 18 August 2018 15:00 (five years ago) link
Figured this would be a one-season wonder. Still a fan, but the show never really gelled into its own entity, nor shed its general air of desperation.
― I Never Promised You A Hose Harden (Eric H.), Saturday, 18 August 2018 15:05 (five years ago) link
I said it on another thread but this show and the McHale show seemed sloppy. But I actually love sloppy shows on Sunday.
― Yerac, Saturday, 18 August 2018 15:09 (five years ago) link
Considering how little these shows must've cost to make, I imagine the ratings must've been abysmal, even by Netflix standards
― Nhex, Saturday, 18 August 2018 21:27 (five years ago) link
but yeah, the show never quite found its groove. but neither did John Oliver or Sam Bee's after six episodes
It was being torrented in a couple of ways too so wonder if their figures reflect who actually got to see it.
― Stevolende, Saturday, 18 August 2018 21:28 (five years ago) link
a topical show just seems like a really bad idea for netflix
― ghost beef (bizarro gazzara), Saturday, 18 August 2018 21:31 (five years ago) link
I just looked up when the J Oliver Miss America episode was on because I think that was when I was hooked. It was episode 18.
― Yerac, Saturday, 18 August 2018 21:47 (five years ago) link
all talk shows need some time to refine, basically
― Nhex, Sunday, 19 August 2018 00:13 (five years ago) link
I could not enjoy this show
― ( ͡☉ ͜ʖ ͡☉) (jim in vancouver), Sunday, 19 August 2018 02:24 (five years ago) link
regardless of what anyone thinks about wolf, the partial reasons for the cancellation (poor taste abortion jokes and horrified netflix subscribers cancelling their accounts) are fucking sad. comedy is meant to offend and provoke
― Ross, Monday, 20 August 2018 16:16 (five years ago) link
where did you read that? I just heard low numbers.
― Josh in Chicago, Monday, 20 August 2018 16:22 (five years ago) link
it'll have been low numbers.
― ( ͡☉ ͜ʖ ͡☉) (jim in vancouver), Monday, 20 August 2018 17:02 (five years ago) link
Saw her live in Portland a few weeks ago and she was amazing. I wish more of her brilliance would have been apparent in The Break. I suspect she wasn't ready professionally for a talk show despite her writing exp w/Meyers & the Daily Show.
― Darin, Monday, 20 August 2018 19:48 (five years ago) link
Well hope it counts as a learning experience for her not as an avenue that will be closed in future to her. I mean just hoping that it doesn't work that this not working out means less opportunities in future. I did enjoy quite a bit of this.

https://www.change.org/p/netflix-netflix-cancel-michelle-wolf-s-talk-show
well it was petitioned for cancellation yeah.
― Ross, Monday, 20 August 2018 22:56 (five years ago) link
that petition predates the airing of the show
― ( ͡☉ ͜ʖ ͡☉) (jim in vancouver), Monday, 20 August 2018 22:59 (five years ago) link
Oh lol yeah. There was an article I read today which I cannot find but it mentioned the abortion salute causing many to cancel or threaten cancellation of Netflix accounts. Who knows if it was bullshit tho
― Ross, Monday, 20 August 2018 23:13 (five years ago) link
i think the problem is that the abortion salute and other content would have been too edgy for the resistance type viewers the show would need to have attracted to be a success. when they go low we go high, respectability politics being a big feature of that worldview
― ( ͡☉ ͜ʖ ͡☉) (jim in vancouver), Monday, 20 August 2018 23:18 (five years ago) link
honestly I think most people forgot who she was by the second week of the show.
― Josh in Chicago, Monday, 20 August 2018 23:37 (five years ago) link
most people still have no idea who she is
― Nhex, Monday, 20 August 2018 23:50 (five years ago) link
Last three posts otm
― Ross, Tuesday, 21 August 2018 03:15 (five years ago) link
btw, it may be worth noting that her live act was completely free of political humor (unless you count gender/race politics).
― Darin, Tuesday, 21 August 2018 03:51 (five years ago) link
Does abortion fall under gender topics? Could see it being a central issue unless its 100% assured available.
― Stevolende, Tuesday, 21 August 2018 04:44 (five years ago) link
Darin did you see her live? Feel like she would excel there
― Ross, Tuesday, 21 August 2018 15:28 (five years ago) link
Yeah - saw her at Revolution Hall in Portland, OR. Great show.
