Aha!
Based on three or four listens, I'm torn between the monumental Kyogenshou and the monumental Gips, but I will consider the later tracks again now

i think this is "yami ni furu ame" though. those strings
Yeah that one is amazing too, astounding songcraft in someone barely out of their teens
― imago, Wednesday, 6 June 2018 19:39 (five years ago) link
also i know i should just be thankful her catalog is streaming, but i would really like for her music videos to be available in the us
― flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Wednesday, 6 June 2018 19:42 (five years ago) link
http://sneek-m.tumblr.com/tagged/shoso-strip/chrono there's some good writing about the album here that delves into the lyrical themes and some of her commentary on the album from interviews.
idk if i'm voting for it but Gips really is as good as that sort of huge arena anthem gets
that's a shame if her videos still aren't available in the US, they've been available here for a while now. they're largely good-not-great
― ufo, Wednesday, 6 June 2018 19:55 (five years ago) link
Yeah, voting Kyogenshou tbh. A truly insanely monstrous opening track. Not unlike...but, well, let's not skip ahead too early...

The mastering on this record is a real earkiller.
― mick signals, Wednesday, 6 June 2018 20:48 (five years ago) link
this is true of all her records
― flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Wednesday, 6 June 2018 21:21 (five years ago) link
they're largely good-not-great
this is true. i just really like the "tsumi to batsu" video, hard to separate that image of shiina from the song itself
― flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Wednesday, 6 June 2018 21:22 (five years ago) link
xp To be sure, but this is the one I always turn off soonest because of it.

It may not be the one with a noise turntablist scratching with a copy of Cluster's 'Curiosum' but it's the one I coted for

I voted for Kyogenshou, a perfect opener - the flute at the beginning really makes it. this album is my favourite thing she's done, it's the perfect blend of rock anthems and more experimental arrangements
I agree that the first two Tokyo Jihen albums are completely essential. on their albums after that the other members write much more of the music and the results are a bit more inconsistent, though there are plenty of great songs she didn't write throughout their discography including Ideal Days for Ultramarine and OSCA
