Golden Hour is also perfect. Whole album is a real gem.

my one qualm with "golden hour" is that "you're my golden hour" comes 3 songs after "you're my velvet elvis" but it's really a very beautiful song

Finally got this from the library and, uh, this is the best album I've ever heard. A whole album that bottles up the wistful freshness I've only ever gotten from "Fastlove" and "Sweet Lovin' Man."

I'm feeling all the songs about living far from the people you love most. "And if my sister lived in town, I know that we'd be doin' something fun" -- feeling fine, and suddenly a moment that hits as hard as Lucinda Williams' "Crescent City."

Yeah definitely my discover of the year since I didn't know her previously.
I may like the previous album a bit more but the latest record is clearly fantastic with some of the best songwriting and melodies I have heard in a loooong while !

the production on this is incredible, one of the best-sounding albums i've heard in awhile. i've been listening to this more than anything else lately, along w/Ashley Monroe's Sparrow. my favorite remains Love Is A Wild Thing, but the title track is up there maybe bc it was also one of the songs she performed when I saw her live opening for Willie Nelson last year and it caught my attention more than anything else in her already-impressive set. It sounds like waking up with the sun.

the production is really insane ... the press copy of the album is wav files, i cherish them with all my heart

the pre-chorus drum fills on "lonely weekend" i think are my fav moment on any album this year

i've heard that the v1nyl version is crazy good (which was the case at least for STDP, i can confirm that) and i might have to pick it up.

i'm interested in anything that sounds like this, if anyone has recommendations. no Paula Cole jokes please.

not many things sound like Kacey Musgraves but the mellow stray gators stuff on Harvest perhaps, also a bit of a harvest moon vibe... did you check the case/lang/veirs album?

Golden Hour is an object lesson in the use of reverb, the trails are almost lysergic. The whole thing is a dream.

Whole thing has such a glow, golden hour is the perfect title

much as I liked High Horse as a single (apart from the lyrics, still feel like a missed opportunity to me) I find it a bit unnecessary in the context of the album

Well you can search and find the Rolling Stone interview and others where she describes acid as a great drug for artists because it’s humbling, and how she was tripping on LSD and feeling far from her mother who coincidentally texted her right then, leading to her writing the song. So “lysergic” not exactly misleading. She also says that she loved the last Tame Impala and wanted to bring some of that sound to country.

for me it's more pleasant, like being a little baked on a summer day where you have nothing to do, I don't necessarily need it to be like Piper at the Gates of the Honky Tonk

i can't figure out if i would like one more verse in Mother or not. on one hand, it's perfect as is. on the other, it doesn't seem like it'd be that hard to write a good second verse, and she could still keep the whole thing under 2:30. pretty tempting!

in my conversation w her and her producers i got the sense it's definitely a drug album

i didn't have a place for this in my story but when they were finishing the album in LA they took shrooms and drove around listening to it

"Lonely Weekend," "Velvet Elvis," and "High Horse" were part of the loop at the Starbucks where I work on Sundays, and they were as pleasant and innocuous as always. I can't imagine being excited for these songs or this album. Whatever the merits of the mix and production, her voice has no tension at all. I'd just rather listen to her compatriots Ashley Monroe and Miranda Lambert.

At best her voice has a tug that's as affecting as reading about a romance mentioned casually in a newspaper story.

It’s perfect café music (not meant as a dis, necessarily)

I was expecting something a little more exciting based on all the breathless talk about this record on ILM and elsewhere. I'm just waiting for everyonehere to get on the Amanda Shires train. She made a fantastic record recently which is everything I thought this album would be, and more.

I guess I like the smoothness, Harvest Moon vibe of it

Love the balearic yacht rock smoothness to the whole album, I mean it really sounds amazing and the melodies just glide.

Re drug album, slow burn does mention “good on green” yeah.
