Listening to Sharp Dressed Man on headphones while walking always turns my walk into a strut. This is despite the fact that I am definitely not a Sharp Dressed Man.

Boredoms. Clash.

El Tomboto, Saturday, 26 May 2018 03:44 (five years ago) link

Non-controps here but fucking unassailable imo.

The Berlin-Detroit solar system of Carl Craig / Planet E, Drexciya / UR, Alec Empire / DHR / Geist, Tresor, etc was the coolest constellation I ever wanted to be part of (and I tried)- but I dunno if that stuff ever made me “feel cool” - in many ways it made me feel the opposite, and that was the point. Cool kids are generally awful people.

El Tomboto, Saturday, 26 May 2018 03:54 (five years ago) link

As a bureaucrat dad who’s just turned 40 the fact that I got to shoot the shit with Alec Empire while he was still wearing silver face paint outside of CBGB, and that Carl Craig bothered to listen to my demo - I did okay.

Anyway another outfit that makes me feel fucking super fucking cool - Girl Band, especially “Law Man” and the bodies in my garage cover.

El Tomboto, Saturday, 26 May 2018 04:01 (five years ago) link

White Light, White Heat, the song itself, original version. And yes it makes me swagger. Though not like Oasis. Referring of course to the u.k.indie "landfill" thread. Love it whenever that thread pops up.

VyrnaKnowlIsAHeadbanger, Saturday, 26 May 2018 04:39 (five years ago) link

Omg I totally forgot about Law Man by Girl Band. That track kills, man! Thanks for the reminder. Gonna go dig it up right now.

UNDER MY GARAGE

El Tomboto, Saturday, 26 May 2018 04:42 (five years ago) link

I know that’s two different tracks but listening to Girl Band really loud definitely answers this thread

El Tomboto, Saturday, 26 May 2018 04:45 (five years ago) link

Fuck yeah!! That track kicks my ass completely. There's a pretty swell live take on YT also. I was going crazy trying to recall who they remind me of, it's Boston's own Girls, Daved Hilds' old band. Particularly, reminds me of their fantastic single "Jeffery, I Hear You". Which I believe came out on Pere Ubu's label, Hearthan or Hearpen or wth it's called. Anyway, great art punk racket all around. I wish more contemporary rock bands went down that road. I mean that(Girl Hand track) is more obnoxiously noisy than most any Sonic Youth, for example.

VyrnaKnowlIsAHeadbanger, Saturday, 26 May 2018 05:09 (five years ago) link

Girl Band obviously. Damned auto-incorrect. Lol.

VyrnaKnowlIsAHeadbanger, Saturday, 26 May 2018 05:11 (five years ago) link

Huggy Bear always makes me feel cool because it holds up in every way imaginable
And sad because not a lot of current bands followed their lead
And old

I wonder if there's a difference between feeling cool and cool experiences?

Anyway, Tindersticks were my first thought (even though if you listen closely to the lyrics, Staples is often not *cool*).

Certainly, around the second album they had an influence on what I thought was cool.

Groovy funk and soul songs usually make me feel really cool like say:

Bill Withers - Who is he and what is he to you?
Marlena Shaw - Woman of the ghetto
George Mcrae - I get lifted

Return of the Mack will never be uncool. I went to youtube and searched for “return of the mack dance” and it proved my point; dance classes with middle-aged, overweight women, drunk white girls, a quinceañera party, dadbod dork alone in his room dancing to this song all looked cool doing it.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Tuesday, 29 May 2018 05:03 (five years ago) link

I was relistening to the classic three early albums by Siouxsie and the Banshees (Kaleidoscope - Juju - Kiss in the Dreamhouse), I think it's a very cool brand of post-punk/gothic. I don't really know which song to highlight though.
