VNYL is back with a new TRNTBL
― omar little, Saturday, 19 May 2018 07:42 (five years ago) link
While it calls itself "wireless," technically this term solely refers to the fact that you don't need to mess with analog cables or outputs in order to connect to a speaker. You do still need to plug a cord into the wall to power your turntable.

I don't even know what I'm looking at.
They're using pants hangers to store their records?
― (V) (°,,,,°) (V) (Austin), Sunday, 10 June 2018 16:36 (five years ago) link
as a bonus, now you can store all your folded up shirts and pants in your suddenly wide open record shelves

I was actually legit wondering why they didn't hang them with the spines facing out, but then I realized that makes sense and this person is a total fucking lunatic.

kinda cringing at what those clips are doing to the record jackets

any adult that has balloons up as a decorative feature needs to have a long hard think about where their life is heading.

They look like thrift store records, who cares?
― we æt so many shimripl (Whiney G. Weingarten), Sunday, 10 June 2018 18:26 (five years ago) link
Also I'm pretty sure those balloons have the logo of Mind, the mental health charity on them. So possibly actually a charity shop. I mean, I still think it's a terrible terrible idea, but...
― emil.y, Sunday, 10 June 2018 18:34 (five years ago) link
yeah this is a classic uk charity shop move, pretty sure I saw this in norwich or nottingham or some other place beginning with NO

this store has trouble with math
"i want 7 records."
"that'll be $56. but if you let us give you a dollar, we'll let you take 4 more records on the house."
"uh--"
"don't ask questions, pal."

The fact that they are featuring ubiquitous dollar bin world champions Chuck Mangione and Joan Baez records in the window, and the fact that this store is in NYC, makes me think this is maybe some kind of elaborate art prank.

makes me think the dump won't let them bring in any more albums and they have to get rid of them somehow

Their website has a link for "records we have" which actually takes you to a Discogs page which shows just about all of those records selling for way less than $10 a piece elsewhere.

years ago i recorded a band and we did the tracking on computer and at the end ran it through someone's reel to reel for a mastering pass to get the tape compression and sort of pre-master the song. its kind of a common technique.

yeah, people do this. I wonder how often they replace the tape, though.
― scopin' VARs (Sufjan Grafton), Thursday, 12 July 2018 16:02 (five years ago) link
CD-quality seems scammy, though. Can't imagine people only or mostly do it as a final step. I guess it depends on pricing. Maybe it's fairly cheap and intended for home recordists. I'm sure Jack White has his own steam powered tape machine to use.

But thanks to the economy of scale isn't vinyl much more expensive to produce?
― canary christ (stevie), Sunday, 16 September 2018 16:40 (five years ago) link
Than it used to be. I mean, obvs labels and stores are also trying to make £££s off the only music people actually pay for anymore.
It is, but small labels still manage to sell LPs for under £10 on much smaller pressings than Paul Mcfuckingcartney, so this is still a massive rip off
