like i'm not saying thibs has been a good coach for the wolves but there are a lot of good players who would run through a wall for him. if kat isn't one of them it's fair to wonder why that is.

like...i can see this argument bc as long as the hampton 5 is alive the chances of winning a title is small. but kawhi is still p young and theoretically in his prime for the duration of his next contract, and i think he can still be a cornerstone of a team that challenges for a title in that window. but if you have uncertainty about kawhi's health and commitment, you dont want that supermax deal eating up half the cap by year 5.

lma's contract isnt that bad bc he's actually a highly productive player who arguably just had his best season. he has 3 years left on his deal and the spurs dont have a lot of salary committed to anyone else in that third year. they could theorteicaly rebuild on the fly with LMA shouldering #1 duties while they pursue a youth movement around whomever they could bring in for kawhi plus dejounte, their #18 pick, and some other younger role players on the roster. but i can't really see pop doing that at age 69.

the pau gasol contract is truly atrocious bc his value only diminishes by the year and he's getting $32.8m over the next two. if they can find some team that needs to meet the salary floor while they tank, then they can clear space for lebron james this summer.

this is probably the most important offseason in spurs history though in terms of the range of possible outcomes. they could get kawhi back plus lebron and be a challenger to GS and HOU in the west. or they could trade kawhi and strike out on big free agents and struggle to make the playoffs next year. tony parker has said he would consider signing with another team. manu could retire. three rotation players have player options. or...they could bring back a really similar looking team next year. no idea.

another thing that pisses me off about Thibs is when someone is as good at creating for others (and underrated defense) as Ricky, wouldn't you at least want to see him with 3 players with the scoring ability Butler, KAT and Wiggins for one year and least? close minded oaf

I am excited about him but his average athleticism is a little concerning for a guy who is going to dominate the ball. the shooting numbers I'm sure will get better with NBA training
