jesse, you can get a new one for under $30 on amazon, if there's stuff wrong with it.

after reading the 'sweet and salty' thread, i'm now tempted to walk to 7-11 to get doritos. in my pyjamas.

I love the big gay bud bill board near that 7/11.

My p2p stream of the Panthers game suxxxxxxxxxxx today.

Jeff, Sunday, 16 September 2007 17:19 (sixteen years ago) link

I want some spray paint too.

Jordan, if you are around, I am about to email you a sendspace link for some stuff I did on one of your drum tracks to your gmail address.

We went to Orange for brunch this morning. I was not impressed.

n/a, Sunday, 16 September 2007 17:34 (sixteen years ago) link

I think we're going to go wander around the craft fair now if I can get Sarah to wake up from her couch nap.

n/a, Sunday, 16 September 2007 17:39 (sixteen years ago) link

Actually Jordan it might be a little while before that stuff is ready to email ... sendspace is being really slow. But I'll get it to you today.

n/a, Sunday, 16 September 2007 17:48 (sixteen years ago) link

Wait, why can't you get spray paint in Chicago? I'm back, btw, with neither spray paint nor Bell's. But with a Bell's-induced hangover.

jaymc, Sunday, 16 September 2007 18:58 (sixteen years ago) link

graffiti

Jeff, Sunday, 16 September 2007 19:01 (sixteen years ago) link

In 1992, an ordinance was passed in Chicago that bans the sale and possession of spray paint, and certain types of etching equipment and markers.[28] The law falls under Chapter 8-4: Public Peace & Welfare, Section 100: Vagrancy. The specific law (8-4-130) makes graffiti an offense that surpasses public drunkenness, peddling, or disruption of a religious service punitively with a fine of no less than $500 per incident.

Jeff, Sunday, 16 September 2007 19:16 (sixteen years ago) link

I really want a broad tip marker, but I can't have one, because I will never leave the city.

Jeff, Sunday, 16 September 2007 19:17 (sixteen years ago) link

Next time someone goes to Michigan, bring me back a giant Sharpie.

Jeff, Sunday, 16 September 2007 19:18 (sixteen years ago) link

Get a giant Sharpie in NC. When you go in October.

In the United States Court of Appeals For the Seventh Circuit

No. 93-3969

NATIONAL PAINT & COATINGS ASSOCIATION, et al.,

Plaintiffs-Appellees,

v.

CITY OF CHICAGO,

Defendant-Appellant.

Jesse, Sunday, 16 September 2007 19:37 (sixteen years ago) link

The Paint people are not happy about the ban.

Plaintiffs in this suit, a consortium of makers, whole- salers, and retailers of paint and markers, contend that this ordinance and a related law enacted at the same time exceed Chicago's home-rule powers under Illinois law and violate the Constitution of the United States to boot. Over the objection of the City, the district court held a trial and concluded, after hearing evidence for six days, that a ban will not work. 835 F. Supp. 421 (N.D. Ill. 1993). The court found that the vandals live, eat, and breathe graffiti, that they are so committed to producing narcis- sistic displays that they are undeterrable--not by fines, anyway.

Jesse, Sunday, 16 September 2007 19:38 (sixteen years ago) link

Such a luxury item does not exist in Eastern NC.

Jeff, Sunday, 16 September 2007 19:39 (sixteen years ago) link

Well, if you're serious about the Sharpie, I can pick one up for you on Thursday. I'm going to Skokie with Sheila.

Actually, I don't now why Nick doesn't just act as our coyote and bring over a bunch of contraband since he works in Evanston.

Jesse, Sunday, 16 September 2007 19:43 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm not serious. But they are useful for blacking out markings on boxes to prep for mailing. And they smell good.

Jeff, Sunday, 16 September 2007 19:53 (sixteen years ago) link

Do they sell spray paint in Evanston? That seems unlikely. But if they do, I'd be happy to pick some up.

n/a, Sunday, 16 September 2007 20:18 (sixteen years ago) link

Eric- what did you eat? I hear the ossobuco is the best thing on the menu.

I had the swordfish and some grapefruit sorbet and some kind of arugala salad, all delicious. I was in a room with 9 folks, and we fell a little short of the minimum required for the room (we weren't paying for this ourselves), and so we took home a few bottles of wine in order to get up to the minimum that was going to be charged anyway.

Also before-hand I was in Filene's Basement and saw an incredible suit that fit me perfectly (at least the jacket) and looked great -- $1,300 Italian suit on clearance for $240, but I did not pull the trigger. Considering that suit I wore to Nick and Sarah's wedding is 12 years old, maybe I should go back and splurge...

Eazy, Sunday, 16 September 2007 20:21 (sixteen years ago) link

Wow, I feel completely worthless today. Nothing but sitting inside, watching sports and screwing around on the internet.

Jeff, Sunday, 16 September 2007 23:22 (sixteen years ago) link

that is what's so great about football season!

horseshoe, Sunday, 16 September 2007 23:23 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm doing stretches now. That's productive.

Jeff, Sunday, 16 September 2007 23:28 (sixteen years ago) link

I have been fairly productive today!

-tidied up a little bit

-pulled out winter clothes

-used oven cleaner on toaster oven, saving myself some moola

-went to Container Store and investigated some SOLUTIONS to a certain PROBLEM I've been having

-went to gym--3.5 miles @ 5.5 mph on treadmill, other stuff

-went to a friends house to watch the end of the game (Bear down, y'all). Drank a couple bloody marys, ate a vicodan, got locked out of friend's house, got lifted through window feet-first just as the vicodan was really hitting. Re-attached bars back on windows.

-Was rewarded with another pill. Delivered by throwing across room into my mouth.

I have lots of bumps and scraped places from the entry through the window. I'll worry about feeling those tomorrow.

Maybe you should juice them, Jesse.

Jordan, Monday, 17 September 2007 13:46 (sixteen years ago) link

Fuck me.

This is going to kill me. I already spend four plus hours a day sitting in my car, I can't even imagine how bad this is going to make things. Fuck Chicago.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Monday, 17 September 2007 13:52 (sixteen years ago) link

has anyone been to any of the world music festival events? i really wanted to see allá -- i like what i heard on their myspace page but did not make it to the show on friday. i also had planned on seeing haale for free at the uptown borders on saturday but some fire drills at truman sapped me of the energy to wait 2 hours after class to see the performance.

anyway, another year is here and i am lamely not going to any of these events. but if allá ever has a show in chicago (they're based here, i think?) i would like to go.

La Lechera, Monday, 17 September 2007 14:05 (sixteen years ago) link

Road construction is better than never getting any road construction. Easy for me to say, I don't have to drive.

I want vicodin. Where do people come across such magical pharmaceuticals?

kenan, Monday, 17 September 2007 14:07 (sixteen years ago) link

Well, I get 100 e-mails a week offering Vicodin that I could forward...

Eazy, Monday, 17 September 2007 14:11 (sixteen years ago) link

heh. No I want ACTUAL Vicodin, not made-up stuff.

kenan, Monday, 17 September 2007 14:12 (sixteen years ago) link

Road construction is fine if its planned in some logical manner rather than piling one half-finished, half-assed mess on top of another. The Edens is already backed up inbound nights because of the Dan Ryan, they need to at least finish that project first. I suddenly fucking hate this city.

My options right now:
A) Suck it up and slog through a four-five hour nightly commute
B) Sleep in my car Sunday-Thursday nights in the parking lot
C) Start taking the train and risk losing my job for not being available to drive to job meetings
D) Quit and find a new job
E) Start whoring myself out to finance hotel living Sunday-Thursday nights

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Monday, 17 September 2007 14:15 (sixteen years ago) link

D!

Jordan, Monday, 17 September 2007 14:17 (sixteen years ago) link

You forgot:
F) Move close to work.

Eazy, Monday, 17 September 2007 14:19 (sixteen years ago) link

None of those like good options, but you also sound pretty frustrated. Maybe not thinking of ALL the options yet?

kenan, Monday, 17 September 2007 14:20 (sixteen years ago) link

May God grant you the serenity to accept the things you cannot change (road construction), the courage to change the things you can (where you live, where you work), and the wisdom to know the difference.

Eazy, Monday, 17 September 2007 14:23 (sixteen years ago) link

I would love another option, but I can't think of one. Qutting really isn't an option at this point, and I do really like my job. Why did I ever move to this fucking city? Let's eliminate public transportation as we make it impossible to drive anywhere! Yay! Fuck you Chicago.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Monday, 17 September 2007 14:25 (sixteen years ago) link

Things that are encouraging and making me feel content today:

1) I has a good night's sleep!
2) I has a freshly installed computer.
3) With that, rediscovering previously forgotten corners of iTunes library.
4) OJ: going to jail finally.
5) Lookin' kinda fly.

Eazy, Monday, 17 September 2007 14:31 (sixteen years ago) link

dan m, Monday, 17 September 2007 14:32 (sixteen years ago) link

Could you tell your bosses that you need them to lease a company car for you to use to get to the meetings so that you don't have to spend 10 hours commuting every day?

La Lechera, Monday, 17 September 2007 14:34 (sixteen years ago) link

It would be temporary until the construction is done, and then the lease will be up, no harm done?

La Lechera, Monday, 17 September 2007 14:35 (sixteen years ago) link

Yeah, having your own car is only a job requirement for pizza delivery drivers. If it's that important to your employer, explain your situation and hope for the best. But that would be the first step, I think.

kenan, Monday, 17 September 2007 14:36 (sixteen years ago) link

Its a pretty small company, no one has company cars not even the partners. So I doubt that option would fly, but I'm going to try to talk to one of them about my options later this week. Unfortunately it was in my job description to have a license and a vehicle to attend project meetings, visit with clients, site visits, etc. I would so love to just be able to take the train and be done with it all, but obviously not.

The only semi-reasonable idea I've had so far is driving in on Monday morning and leaving my car there all week while I take the train back and forth. But, since my fiancee needs the car sometimes during the week nights, this may not fly either.
