look, i sing my kids to sleep with depressing alex chilton songs like every other parent, our reasoning can't always be perfect.

Poison Arrow, Private Idaho and Video Killed The Radio Star are the ones that jump out, but there are probably about 20 perfect songs here.

Private Idaho. It was the gateway for my teenager to get into new wave.

Super hard but going with Psych Furs over Cab Voltaire only because 'Love My Way' randomly plays in my head more often.

agree, that there are probably 20 plus perfect songs on here, so i stopped at the first one and voted. i was thinking does it get better than "Ca Plane Pour Moi" and thought probably not.

Voted Private Idaho, but wanted to point out that I heard the full ten minute Todd Terje edit of Pop Muzik in Kmart the other day.

“New York, London, Paris, Munich” has got to be one of the most egregious trying-really-hard-to-make-it-rhyme line ever.

"Pop Muzik" seems to show up on lots of '80s comps despite being a hit in 1979 (early '79 in the UK). I guess sounding like an '80s song is enough for the compilers...

Anyway, Pop Muzik is my #2 bridesmaid, behind Never Say Never.

A few of these are of such a piece with the albums (Big Country, ABC, Furs, TFF) that I have trouble thinking of them as singles. I think I ultimately went Bananarama, not because it's my favorite on here - several are songs I actually voted for before- but I think because lately I've been getting a dark, spooky, definitely evocative undercurrent to the track that helps it stick in my head. Other than that: Romeo Void, Plastic Bertrand, Devo, B-52s, Yaz, Frankie, ... so many great songs.

Really been battling between my standard answer to everything (B-52's) and Romeo Void. "Never Say Never" is ridiculously great, but I went with the one I'm sure I've actually played more.

That was the same battled I faced.

The first volume is pretty much all stuff from '78-9, which they justify in the liner notes by saying those years were the "Year Zero" for the New Wave.
