Sample killed me on j tree

Depressed and impressed (Ross), Monday, 14 May 2018 22:24 (five years ago) link

I just love their **sound** don't know how to describe, but the tone works with me, pretty much no matter what.

Van Horn Street, Monday, 14 May 2018 23:45 (five years ago) link

The new one gets better and better the more you hear it.

The Harsh Tutelage of Michael McDonald (Raymond Cummings), Monday, 14 May 2018 23:56 (five years ago) link

Eye Contact still sounds like the future

Yeah excited for this one.

MikoMcha, Wednesday, 16 May 2018 20:57 (five years ago) link

Highly recommend the beedeegee record by degraw

Incline/decline (Ross), Thursday, 17 May 2018 15:13 (five years ago) link

It’s cool how much their sound changed when all their gear was stolen. Not that it’s cool the gear was stolen

Incline/decline (Ross), Thursday, 17 May 2018 15:14 (five years ago) link

psyched for this

call all destroyer, Thursday, 17 May 2018 15:38 (five years ago) link

Inspired by all the love for gang gang I’ve purchased eye contact and saint dymphna, my favourite. I already own it somewhere but I’m dying to spin house jam

Incline/decline (Ross), Thursday, 17 May 2018 18:59 (five years ago) link

Damn is dymphna good. Like their pop record.

Also vacuum sounds like Mbv mashed with hip hop

Incline/decline (Ross), Thursday, 17 May 2018 22:23 (five years ago) link

house jam is an all time high for me

Oh shit gang gang

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Friday, 18 May 2018 19:09 (five years ago) link

Dymphna and Eye Contact are two of my favorite albums of the 2000s, easily. I'm always happily surprised when I go back to them, they're so good. (Also the two GGD shows I've seen are two of my favorite shows of the 2000s.)

Jealous of the shows moth. I forgot to go to the eye contact show :-/

Exit stage left (Ross), Friday, 18 May 2018 20:09 (five years ago) link

Sooo good. They closed out one night of Big Ears that year, and they played so long they actually got shut down because it was 3 a.m. Everybody was still dancing and no one wanted to go home.

Damn son

Shit

Ross, Friday, 18 May 2018 21:16 (five years ago) link

Saw them at the Eye Contact and boy was it good.

Eye Contact tour*

Van Horn Street, Friday, 18 May 2018 22:32 (five years ago) link

Thru and Thru is a masterpiece fuiud

Van Horn Street, Friday, 18 May 2018 22:35 (five years ago) link

They were amazing on the Eye Contact tour. The news stuff is lovely but here's hoping the new album has the sort of rollercoaster moments that both that and Dymphna had.

Listened to SD this week in anticipation (first time in maybe seven or eight years?) on way better speakers and headphones than I had back when I first heard it and I don't think I really appreciated how much space there is in the sound on Vaccum. It's like rattling around in a tank of noise.

Matt DC, Saturday, 19 May 2018 09:23 (five years ago) link

Same here bud. Just rolled it with some new Sony headphones and damn it sounded good. I think sd and eye contact are their masterpieces. I’d be happy with just a good record with no frills at this juncture

Ross, Saturday, 19 May 2018 09:25 (five years ago) link

For a band that's all about finding exciting new frills that seems like the wrong approach to me.

Matt DC, Saturday, 19 May 2018 09:36 (five years ago) link

What I mean is they’ve made enough dope records to just put a solid record. Anyway love the two new singles and imagine they’ll as per usual drop Bombs

Ross, Saturday, 19 May 2018 09:38 (five years ago) link

I’ve been a fan since their first lp but I’m just happy they’re producing new material

Ross, Saturday, 19 May 2018 09:40 (five years ago) link

Love how Chinese high goes from little
Mermaid to like lounge family sitcom music

Ross, Saturday, 19 May 2018 09:55 (five years ago) link

haha i can't believe there were people this into their shit show they called a live show. They were the worst band I've ever seen live other than the chromatics, and I saw them at their 2009 peak. Awful hot mess.

mickcsmith (micarl), Monday, 21 May 2018 21:44 (five years ago) link

You could replace Lizzi with a 10 year old who had no drumming experience on those tom drums and they could keep the same rhythm she has. Maybe the bad-ness of it is the appeal but it's lost on me.

mickcsmith (micarl), Monday, 21 May 2018 21:48 (five years ago) link

Owch

Music is confidence (Ross), Monday, 21 May 2018 23:14 (five years ago) link

lotta negativity on ilx today

Paul Ponzi, Monday, 21 May 2018 23:16 (five years ago) link

The one time I saw them live was at a festival and their sound problems were so bad that they managed to finish I think 3 songs in a total of an hour.

monotony, Monday, 21 May 2018 23:43 (five years ago) link

Haven’t seen them live but I love their records.

Can’t stand for this dissing

Music is confidence (Ross), Tuesday, 22 May 2018 01:51 (five years ago) link

The two new songs sound to me like the best thing they’ve done since saint dymphna

✖✖✖ (Moka), Tuesday, 22 May 2018 04:05 (five years ago) link

Then again they were pretty much inactive for 7 years, I thought they had disbanded already.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Tuesday, 22 May 2018 04:07 (five years ago) link

saw them around a year after saint dymphna came out?

cool show i really enjoyed it

nxd, Tuesday, 22 May 2018 09:03 (five years ago) link

The first time I saw Lizzi play was with her drum-duo side project, and I liked her energy but musically it was a lot of undistinguished thumping. So I was surprised the first time I saw GGD how well her drumming worked in the confines a more structured band. Like I said upthread, both times I saw them they were totally in sync and on point, their sets were seamless.

Yeah saw em 2010 and they slayed, it’s almost as if there are variances of quality across performances depending on context

I think this band has the best futurism

Vapor waif (uptown churl), Tuesday, 22 May 2018 20:29 (five years ago) link

Don’t sleep on the beedeegee album which is a continuation of the strange pop distortions of saint dymphna. Features the gang gang singer as well on “rain man”

I like st the most cuz it flows as one song so brilliantly

two weeks pass...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I9xfTw5WkfE

this one just sounds like 'more Eye Contact' but that's not really a bad thing

ufo, Wednesday, 6 June 2018 16:15 (five years ago) link

Went in one ear and out the other tbh

Slippage (Ross), Thursday, 7 June 2018 14:21 (five years ago) link

So this album totally rips!

mind how you go (Ross), Friday, 22 June 2018 10:07 (five years ago) link

J tree album version is different. Which was unexpected

mind how you go (Ross), Friday, 22 June 2018 10:13 (five years ago) link

different how?

Paul Ponzi, Friday, 22 June 2018 11:17 (five years ago) link

Actually they’re not different. Just find it weird iTunes downloaded J tree twice. Gotta delete that

mind how you go (Ross), Friday, 22 June 2018 11:46 (five years ago) link

Damn this is good. Smoothest ggd yet

mind how you go (Ross), Friday, 22 June 2018 16:49 (five years ago) link

Gorgeous record. Shame there seems to be so little hype for it.

Sure I made the exact same post in the Melody's Echo Chamber thread.
