as an album opener Hidden Place kind of echoes Hunter on Homogenic, similar eerie feel to me

big point jump
I thought I was aware of most of the iconic imagery around these albums, but there are so many in this poll I had never seen before!
― Dan S, Friday, 11 May 2018 19:30 (six years ago) link
Wait what, what is number 1 then, Jòga ?

Can't believe that Hunter, Venus as a Boy, Bachelorette and Hyperballad are all in front of All is Full of Love.
― Nabozo, Friday, 11 May 2018 19:36 (six years ago) link
I wonder if it's the split between those who love the original mix and those who love the album's Howie B version?
― nourish nourish your turtleheart (Eric H.), Friday, 11 May 2018 19:38 (six years ago) link
dude, those five songs end to end are one helluva line-up.
― morning wood truancy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 11 May 2018 19:38 (six years ago) link
Alfred lining it up
― Peaked redundancy (Ross), Friday, 11 May 2018 19:44 (six years ago) link
This was the last thing cut from my ballot. I think I prefer the Howie B version these days.
― Gavin, Leeds, Friday, 11 May 2018 19:44 (six years ago) link
Kind of surprised "Stonemilker" just missed the top 10. I went back on forth between it and, er, something that hasn't placed yet as my #1.

I remember listening to "Hunter" at the same time as Spring Heeled Jack and Roni Size.
― morning wood truancy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 11 May 2018 19:47 (six years ago) link
Because I like perversions, I entertained the thought of a Henley-Bjork collaboration.
Damn son you make me feel young
The only Homogenic track I didn't vote for. It just doesn't do anything for me, other than introduce the album, really.

Unravel is the best tho cmon
― Peaked redundancy (Ross), Friday, 11 May 2018 19:48 (six years ago) link
Hunter really feels like a dramatic album opener to me
xp my favorite version of All if Full of Love is the one on the album. I've never figured out what string instrument is featured in this, it sounds like plucked harpsichord strings. and I love those shimmering blasts of white noise at the end

love the video

"all is full of love" and "hyperballad" were the two really obvious björk songs i couldn't stop myself from voting for. "love" in particular is so powerful, so beautiful, and lately i've found it very therapeutic. it's so simple. you'll be given love. you'll be taken care of. you have to trust it. maybe not from the directions you poured yourself into but it's there. i'm crying paraphrasing the lyrics rn

anyway i think it's too low

I too have had my moments of private crying to AIFOL; definitely multiple times in college.

07. Venus as a Boy (Debut, 1993) -- 1,037.5 points; 27 votes; 1 first-place vote
all is full of love was my #2. wondering which version everyone was voting for, though. for me, i was thinking the single, non-album version, which i can't help but think of it as "futuristic" sounding even though i know that i'm probably just thinking of the imagery of the video. the beatless album version is also great, but somehow adding the mechanical rhythm track only enhances its soothing nature while also making it the kind of song that you turn way the hell up on the car stereo so that your butt will itch
― obviously DLC (Karl Malone), Friday, 11 May 2018 20:25 (six years ago) link
wow they are basically tied! didn't realize ppl felt that strongly about hunter (i do, but like an order of magnitude less than AIFOL)
xp omg that one too! 1035.5, 1037, 1037.5...
― challops trap house (Will M.), Friday, 11 May 2018 20:25 (six years ago) link
i voted for both versions of "all is full of love" at once
― flamenco drop (BradNelson), Friday, 11 May 2018 20:27 (six years ago) link
that's basically it for my ballot except for "hyperballad" wherever it lands (on those rocks probably)
it was incredibly painful to cut "unravel" from my ballot but it happened
― flamenco drop (BradNelson), Friday, 11 May 2018 20:29 (six years ago) link
If I'm being honest, I voted for the album version of AIFOL.

the pairing of bollywood strings and celeste in Venus as a Boy is perfect

"isobel" is so perfect
― flamenco drop (BradNelson), Friday, 11 May 2018 20:43 (six years ago) link
i guess "isoperfect" is an awkward song title
I have gotten really REALLY into "Isobel" over the past year and it's gone from "oh that's nice" to like my top 10

My #1 vote. I really couldn't make that font small enough compared to the background image to properly convey my impression of that song's magnitude, while still remaining legible.
