Knee gut reaction is Cities in Dust but haven't listened to this in ages. Will report back

i kinda forgot about it! started playing it again last year. so good. i mean its no hyaena but what is. still has a lot to recommend it. and the production is better than i remember. i think for some reason i remember it being a more mushy post-1984 production. and it is a little slick/blander in that regard. but its got plenty of dark corners to hide out in. the first side is tops.

This was my favorite Banshees album until I heard Juju and The Scream. You could make an argument for every song except Party’s Fall as the best song on the album.

Aww I love "Party's Fall."

"Cities In Dust" was my gateway to the Banshees. I still love this album, the wotshisname guitarist is really good.

Voted for Cannons. This is easily my favourite Banshees album.

Party's Fall has some fantastic guitar lines. I don't know that I could make a case for it being the best on the album under any circumstances, but I like it a lot.

is there a thread for faux-siouxsie bands. was listening to this today. the lyrics are very funny. definite gothsploitation lyrics.

Only 7 votes? The mass of post-punk fans that populated ILM ten years ago have clearly moved on...

2 sad 2 vote

didn't see this poll but the whole of side one is great. that transition from 'sweetest chill' to 'this unrest' is incredible, such an eerie shift in mood

I didn’t vote because I couldn’t narrow down to a shortlist

relistening now and 'this unrest' has the same sort of furtive scuttling menace as 'dodo' by genesis

anyway, please accept my late vote for 'cannons'

three years pass...

Clearly their best. And all those b-sides were equally rad

Yeah, I love "An Execution". Is that an actual first person account that makes up the spoken lyrics?
