I'm sure some exist but, speaking as a classical musician, I've never met a classical musician or fan who didn't admire at least some Beethoven.

Ditto. I've hardly ever heard anyone with bad things to say about LvB, discounting those who would foolishly write off classical music altogether.

99% of British guitar music to thread.

What wouldn't be classified as AOR in 1980 isn't AOR today either. Music is timeless. Genres don't change.

Geir Hongro, Thursday, 19 April 2007 20:51 (sixteen years ago) link

Btw. Beethoven I did pick on purpose. You will have those who consider Bach and Handel "too pompous and affected", Mozart and Haydn "too simple and too twee" and most post-Beethoven classical "too complex".

Beethoven sort of fits between all those.

Geir Hongro, Thursday, 19 April 2007 20:54 (sixteen years ago) link

Mozart - "too simple". sure.

willem, Thursday, 19 April 2007 20:57 (sixteen years ago) link

Leonard Cohen!

I've hardly ever heard anyone with bad things to say about LvB,

Chuck Berry? :)

discounting those who would foolishly write off classical music altogether.

Well, OK, that settles it :)

Geir Hongro, Thursday, 19 April 2007 21:04 (sixteen years ago) link

"Field" is the 2007 equivalent of last year's "Wolf". I propse Fieldwolf or Wolffield.

...on fire.

Will M., Thursday, 19 April 2007 21:17 (sixteen years ago) link

Leonard Cohen = over my dead body

Sundar, Thursday, 19 April 2007 23:15 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm embarrased to suggest ABBA, Elvis Presley got to me finally, I'll bet everybody likes at least one Dean Martin song, does anyone hate Madness? I think T Rex was probably the best suggestion

roger whitaker, Friday, 20 April 2007 01:34 (sixteen years ago) link

all those have their detractors.

no one's moaned about os mutantes yet.

or prince afaik.

the next grozart, Friday, 20 April 2007 01:43 (sixteen years ago) link

daft punk?

the next grozart, Friday, 20 April 2007 01:43 (sixteen years ago) link

If you'd suggested daft punk 3 years ago - I'd have agreed - but now I couldn't bear to listen to any track,

I'm off to find an os mutants track now - never heard of them :)

roger whitaker, Friday, 20 April 2007 01:50 (sixteen years ago) link

Ah yes, teh Os Mutants.

I gotta agree with Avalanches, though.

All different types of people go in for them. Even bogans.

Drooone, Friday, 20 April 2007 01:54 (sixteen years ago) link

You've gotta come at this thing sideways: apart from maybe Geir, I bet everyone here would at least sorta like Ayalew Mesfin's "Gud Aderegetchegn."

nabisco, Friday, 20 April 2007 07:24 (sixteen years ago) link

Never heard of it.

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 20 April 2007 08:27 (sixteen years ago) link

mmmmmm, based on the fragment here (track 14) I'm not convinced.

StanM, Friday, 20 April 2007 08:35 (sixteen years ago) link

i'm not entirely convinced by the avalanches. it's a bit mild for me.

the next grozart, Friday, 20 April 2007 09:19 (sixteen years ago) link

i love 'frontier psychiatrist' but the rest of that avalanches album irritated the hell out of me

lex pretend, Friday, 20 April 2007 09:22 (sixteen years ago) link

os mutantes are OK, some good tunes.

avalanches are intolerable. unspeakable. shouldn't be allowed.

m the g, Friday, 20 April 2007 09:43 (sixteen years ago) link

Adam & The Ants were just about image, not music.

But but the tunes! Melodic ones, too! Goody Two Shoes, Ant Music, Prince Charming, all wonderful pop singles. Two drum kits, people!

Mark C, Friday, 20 April 2007 14:54 (sixteen years ago) link

aww nabisco, i <3 alayew mesfin!

pretzel walrus, Friday, 20 April 2007 15:32 (sixteen years ago) link

Actually I have heard it, I just didn't know the title or artist. I must check out some of those Ethiopiques compilations.

Good record that.

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 20 April 2007 15:35 (sixteen years ago) link

i just went through this whole thing and didn't see sly and the family stone, which is odd. but now that geir's here that might get shot down.

Haikunym said this. He is right. About both bits, sadly.

Scik Mouthy, Friday, 20 April 2007 15:38 (sixteen years ago) link

i'm not sure i like sly and the family stone either for some reason. Maybe I haven't heard enough but what I did hear wasn't quite as funky and tough as I'd expected it to be.

the next grozart, Friday, 20 April 2007 15:42 (sixteen years ago) link

wasn't being entirely serious with the LvB remark. What I mean is you'll probably get a whole other discussion about him on a classical music board. On here, there's simply not enough people who care.

Honestly, the only way this discussion could ever be relevant, would be if it were limited to popular music, and preferrably stuff that 'everyone' listens to. Not that hard to find something that no-one would object to simply on the account of never having heard it. "Who doesn't like Monk & Canatella?"

the Dirt, Friday, 20 April 2007 15:49 (sixteen years ago) link

not that I mean people've never heard Beethoven.

the Dirt, Friday, 20 April 2007 15:49 (sixteen years ago) link

The Klaxons, Oasis

Ethan Gaymead, Friday, 20 April 2007 15:50 (sixteen years ago) link

ooohoo, yeah it's hard to find someone who hates those guys

the Dirt, Friday, 20 April 2007 15:51 (sixteen years ago) link

Monk and Canatella were fab! Care In The Community - good record that.

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 20 April 2007 15:52 (sixteen years ago) link

xpost I love them both, for example.

Monk & Canatella were pretty good actually.

the next grozart, Friday, 20 April 2007 15:52 (sixteen years ago) link

Totally agree, love both albums (there aren't more, are there), plus the Terminalhead mixes. Hehe, maybe this is our golden band?
