in this story about this writer’s brother there is one (1) picture of them both and five (5) pictures of the car as well as numerous paragraphs about what a smooth, enjoyable ride the volvo provided as he made his emotional pilgrimage around to places in ireland of great personal sentimental value

he's an intern for gawker for cars and needed some car related peg obv to write about his brother - if the writing hadn't felt so sincere i'd hold it more against him but i feel like he did the bare minimum to get published (the "i drove a volvo" line was so perfunctory). i guess i'm just sympathetic :/ he's obv an aspiring writer who misses his brother.

at least it was his own brother, his family ... considering how many writers, artists, etc. appropriate other people's personal tragedies or use them to write tone deaf think pieces ... it may be tacky, but assumedly, it's not hurting anyone.

compared to the NYT magazine feature story last month about Max Harris' veganism and care for animals that kinda handwaved his lack of care for the guests at his event, where 36 people died ... "volvo gave me a car to drive around Ireland and write about my dead brother" seems kinda sweet
