their active roster isn't very impressive right now. even at full strength, i'm not sold on them.

The titans of baseball also known as the cincinnati reds are simply too good for these lowly Dodgers.

Bellinger, down two runs, bottom of the 9th, 1 out and 3-0, no one one base, decides to bunt directly to the pitcher. Exquisite stuff.

Walker Buehler looked pretty impressive in the start I saw last week. Dude was reminding me a bit of Tim Hudson and Greg Maddux, as he has such a simple and easy delivery.

For as much to go wrong for the Dodger season, they are back lurking near the top of the NL West.

I thought he's been looking a little shaky last few games, chasing a bit more, getting impatient. Maybe trying a bit too hard to make one last push for the All-Star game. But he managed to muscle hr #21 to opposite field last night anyway.

Is there a better scenario in life than Puig hitting a walk off in the World Series vs the Yankees?

Van Horn Street, Thursday, 19 July 2018 03:40 (five years ago) link

yes, the Yankees losing all their remaining games

Even in the midst of a .173/.264/.280 second half, Kemp’s at .345/.621 against fastballs. Since his start in the All-Star Game, he has seen 208 pitches (as categorized by Brooks Baseball) that weren’t fastballs or sinkers. He’s gotten exactly one hit off those 208 pitches, a solitary single off a curve thrown by Yusmeiro Petit.

Ouch.

stever20:
Why are the Dodgers so mediocre against the bad teams? vs Mets, Marlins, Reds, Giants, and Padres they are 25-25. Vs everyone else they are 53-42.

Jeff Sullivan:
The Dodgers as a team rank 7th in baseball in winning percentage against teams that are .500 or better. They rank 17th in winning percentage against teams under .500

But then the Cardinals rank 3rd and 18th, respectively

So, for one thing, the Dodgers aren't alone in doing this. And for another, this is going to be a boring response, but I don't think there's anything to read into. The Dodgers have just been maddeningly inconsistent, and it's easiest to notice when they lose games they ought to win

The Dodgers might be 25-25 against those five teams you named, but they've also outscored those teams 228-180

Fold in some luck and better clutch performance and you wouldn't think anything of it

Except for the Reds part. That one just looks bad

(Manny Ramirez and Manny Farber have more than one thread each...we need a Manny Machado thread.)

I had to look up the details to jog my memory, but I remembered a year where the Dodgers (playing a nothing game) blew out the Giants in the final game of the season, costing them a playoff spot, and one of the Giants, extremely upset, vowed revenge. Looks like it was '93, which would make sense: that was the year the Giants lost the last pre-wild-card race to the Braves, with both teams winning 100+. The Dodgers won the game 12-1.

Today would have been a good time for payback, but they're getting blown out even worse.

Does anyone here watch Terrace House? Kenta Maeda was a guest panelist on today's episode and he said that ALL of the Dodgers upper management and many of the players are huge fans. He was pretty funny, it was nice to see him enjoying the off-season.
