How was the show, Bee OK?

this is how my day started yesterday. i actually had an opportunity to buy tickets when there were some left. my friends were a little slow on letting me know that they wanted to go. by the time they said yes, it was too late. yesterday i decided to look at tickets on my phone and it said there are tickets on sales. i went to buy two tickets and it said, not available try a different quantity. i ran to my computer and tried to buy tickets, it said sold out. so then i had a debate with myself. do i want to go to this concert by myself? i think i still have this ticket on my phone but need to make up my mind. i'm thinking, well i'm probably too late but let's see if it will let me buy just one ticket. it went to the payment page and i was freaking out. i guess i'm going after all.

i make my way to Hollywood and find free parking, i'm having a great day, i get out of my car and took this picture:

i'm not the biggest Arctic Monkeys fan to begin with. i bought their debut album back in the day but only followed them with their singles for the next few albums. when i heard "Do You Wanna Know?" i ended up buying AM. i fell head over hills for that album to become a newer fan of these guys. i did miss the opening band and this place was packed. got there when they played "Arabella" and it was perfect. this band is at the top of their game. they didn't talk to the audience other then "Hollywood you're so dark" but had them in the palm of their hands. the band was on point all night where it felt like they have been on the road for a bit, which is not true, this was their third show for this new album. the AM tracks stuck out of me, they seem to have a groove to them that is sort of missing from their other songs. not to take anything away from the other songs as they were also a lot of fun. "You're So Dark", "Knee Socks," "One for the Road" and "R U Mine?" along with the other two massive songs from AM were absolute highlights. "I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor" was puck rock with everyone jumping up and down. had a blast last night as that was a special night. go see them when they come to town if you are interest, you will not be disappointed.

holy fuck this is NOT sounding good at all. It reminds me of the garrulous horrors of the third album.

Humbug is their finest record, IMO... if this new one is most like that, then I might like it.

well this isn't good news Alfred. i'm going to stay optimistic along with Turrican and hope for great things from this. the songs i heard live sounded good.

oh wow, this gets release Friday on Spotify, so i guess we will all find out soon enough.

Some gorgeous stuff on this ere album but it's surprising just how much of it is samey and cold and distant. I like the highlights very much.
Batphone is as-good-as unlistenable. Seems they are trending on Twitter in the UK because people hate it so much, it's The Last Jedi all over again.

Turrican otm about Humbug being their best, jumped off the bandwagon before AM came out but the distaste for this new one has me curious

huh, from the first three tracks i think i really like this? i guess i'm not surprised it's getting panned though

Living with it for almost a week, I'm convinced half of it meanders in search of melodies that Turner's piano and voice can't support, but it was ever thus with these dudes.

the melodies are a little oblique and ungiving sometimes ("golden trunks" seems to go in reverse every time it alights on something pleasurable to hear)... but i'm pretty sure that's why it's good

AM is pretty samey too tbh, despite some excellent songs. I've never made it through from start to finish i don't think

this record brings up a lot of weird comparison points for me. like i feel like jellyfish might've made this record had they traded in paisley overalls and wide-eyed awe for impenetrably dark sunglasses and ennui

Turner's always traded on ennui, though, right? This time he's shooting for the rotter vibe of This is Hardcore, and I'm still wondering if he's cramming too many words onto rickety melody lines.

I realized yesterday that I had a terrible download. The stream sounds much better.

oh yeah totally it just feels even more locked into that ennui than even their previous records. this is hardcore came to mind too

I don't mind the drums but *that* bass sound has been everywhere these last few years. I've seen Alex Turner talking about trying to get the bass to sound like Histoire de Melody Nelson.

What's up with the drums, do you think?

It's some sort of 70s ish flat, low reverb, fat, dry kind of snare that would be the 'warm' setting on production software or something, idk. I actually let this album pass me by until I heard their versions of these songs on their Albert hall live album which are even better than on the album.

I think AT is my musical man crush. I love how he sings on this.

This is as good as i've ever seen them; as much down to the crowd as the fellas themselves. But also it's rare to see a gig on live Tv that captures what it's like to be there. There's a few songs missing.
