The guy was surely still a d-lister before this album, though, so how did he score a Tina Turner duet with "It's Only Love"? (which is definitely one of the album's better songs)

Ewww, BA lookinb like a weasel on that cover. That's off-putting for starters.

The "Cuts Like a Knife" and "Reckless" albums aren't all bad. Surely this album contained "Heaven" and I don't exactly love it for that, but it's a decent mainstream rock album. Much better than the balladeer he got known as in the 90s.

Won't lie, I kind of love "Heaven"

"One Night Love Affair" is actually a great non-single from this hit-filled album.

xpost I had the 45 of this when I was like 4.

I've never heard the two before CLAK. Any good?

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

Not sure about the debut. Off of You Want It You Got It "Fits Ya Good" and "Lonely Nights" were decent AOR singles. "Lonely Nights" maybe better than decent iirc. Nice call-and-response backing vocal on the outro.

what was that interview where he was all annoyed because people made fun of him for only being 10 or whatever in 1969, and he was like, "THE SONG IS ABOUT SEX -- DOING 69! FOR FUCK'S SAKE!"

would you ask tom petty that? (tipsy mothra), Tuesday, 2 June 2009 02:31 (fourteen years ago) link

first, it was really weird to read bimble's first post on this thread (and his then ILX moniker).

second, "run to you" is actually a pretty cool song w/ an interesting guitar sound. added bonus: Lysette Anthony is the chick in the video (she's also the chick in Depeche Mode's "I Feel You" video).

where's chuck???

Here! And I never even saw this thread until now! Would've gone with "Summer Of 69," followed by "Run To You," then probably either "Ain't Gonna Cray" (partly for the dumpster solo) or "Kids Wanna Rock."

Fifth place: "One Night Love Affair."
Sixth: Probably "It's Only Love" feat. Tina Turner

A landmark hard rocking pop album, obviously.

Always thought "Run To You" was a "Don't Fear the Reaper" rip-off/homage, though when I mention this people insist he ripped off "Refugee". I can hear it, but now I read he wrote it for BOC (they rejected it): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Run_to_You_(Bryan_Adams_song)

Lysette Anthony sure looks beautiful in all these videos, partially in an "80s Hot" way, but also in an always way.

According to Wikipedia, she was also the woman in Depeche Mode's I Feel You. And also in the movie Krull. I need to watch Krull.

"Run to You" is a fun riff to play while you're just mindlessly noodling on the guitar in front of the tv or something.

When my family moved away from our hometown, some of my dad's friends and colleagues put together a video that included a photo montage set to "Heaven." Later (though not much later), I heard the song in the opening credit sequence to the Christopher Atkins stripper drama A Night in Heaven. A weird pair of associations to have with a song.
