Wood TV. Jack looks like he's been practicing on his wood. He should just be a one man band.

wow, that was fast. figure the Stripes must really be done at this point. and why not, Meg's recently married and settling into domestic life, probably still has the stage fright issue or whatever the heck it was, and they already gave us 6 real strong albums. seems like Jack's moving on

Nothing really compelling.

kelpolaris, Saturday, 1 May 2010 04:38 (thirteen years ago) link

It is safe to describe this record as difficult. It may reward repeated listenings, but it's certainly not a lot of fun.

What's most tragic in [White's] fall from genius to megalomaniac bozo is that this once cliché-kicking hero is following the most boring rock excess path imaginable, confusing over-production with evolution (he doesn't stand out against The Edge and Jimmy Page in 'It Might Get Loud': he assimilates himself into the canon), and seems to have no idea he's doing it.

yeah, I miss Jack white the minimalist

who wrote actual songs

And damn it I miss Meg too

dig yrself (lukevalentine), Wednesday, 12 May 2010 10:04 (thirteen years ago) link

Some active ripping-off of The Knife / Fever Ray's look for that cover imo.

Whatevs. Jack White is the garth brooks of yo yos. Most of his music bores the piss out of me.

Ironically, he predicted this on Little Room from White blood Cells.

I think its kind of amazing that something that tries SO hard to be "abrasive", "difficult", and "edgy" can be so damn boring. I put those in scare quotes because I realize this is pretty relative.

I actually don't hate this so far...yeah, Blue Blood Blues is tuneless, but it does have a (awkwardly Kraut-biting) groove to it, and Hustle and Cuss is way cool...

This might be the my favorite thing Jack White has done since Get Behind Me Satan.

scaruffi kaleidoscope (Drugs A. Money), Wednesday, 27 October 2010 23:06 (thirteen years ago) link

obv the album cover is egregious though...

Been listening to this on YouTube...there are some dire moments on this ("I'm Mad"?) and, yes, I liked it less once I figured out who Boss Hog is, but I still think it's okay. The De Stijl retread "I Can't Hear You" aside, it sounds like 10 separate failed attempts to turn "Blue Orchid" into a prog song...I kind of like how I can't tell Jack's voice from Allison's...

It's better than Plastic Beach.

I still stand by this. I was just listening to this for a bit and it's def a mixed bag. Turns out, I hate Blue Blood Blues but I can still totally get down with The Difference Between Us

Hey, they have a new album. Sounds like them. The song where Jack White rap-sings is maybe not so good.
