isn't that Gladys Knight's voice?

boxedjoy, Wednesday, 18 April 2018 20:27 (six years ago) link

Yeah looks like it is - totally mistook it for roisin

after party for the apocalypse (Ross), Wednesday, 18 April 2018 20:34 (six years ago) link

that really does sound a lot like roisin though tbh

It was premiered on Nemone's radio show yesterday. It sounded really good - probably the most "pop" thing either of them have done in a good while.

boxedjoy, Thursday, 3 May 2018 16:37 (five years ago) link

that's out digitally now and both tracks rule

ufo, Saturday, 5 May 2018 03:31 (five years ago) link

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Saturday, 5 May 2018 03:45 (five years ago) link

wow they’re both great

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Saturday, 5 May 2018 04:05 (five years ago) link

i can’t wait to make these singles my arbitrary album of the year

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Saturday, 5 May 2018 04:05 (five years ago) link

£20 for a single? £80 for an eight track album is taking the piss.

Heavy Messages (jed_), Saturday, 5 May 2018 11:42 (five years ago) link

Of the two, I think I prefer 'Innocence'

Jeff W, Saturday, 5 May 2018 14:53 (five years ago) link

I would bet this turns into an album, the same way Sequins did

boxedjoy, Saturday, 5 May 2018 17:37 (five years ago) link

I'm just now listening to these

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 6 May 2018 21:38 (five years ago) link

There's nothing arbitrary about it, surely. When they're all out that's an album. I'm sure it will be sold as such post-vinyl release.

Heavy Messages (jed_), Monday, 7 May 2018 00:42 (five years ago) link

lol i briefly forgot that sequins turned into ruby blue so i trust y’all

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Monday, 7 May 2018 00:51 (five years ago) link

The ep is good - very electro - do you like my tight sweater cubes

Dyslexicon (Ross), Monday, 7 May 2018 05:06 (five years ago) link

I think I prefer Innocence but I also think at this point I prefer Maurice Fulton to Roisin Murphy

boxedjoy, Monday, 7 May 2018 16:38 (five years ago) link

She reminds me of mike Patton in her dismantling of styles

Dyslexicon (Ross), Tuesday, 8 May 2018 07:16 (five years ago) link

Take her up to Monto is all time

perpetual motion machine (Ross), Tuesday, 8 May 2018 07:20 (five years ago) link

Was loving that Seinfeld bass on house of glass remix so more of that on all my dreams is alright by me

perpetual motion machine (Ross), Wednesday, 9 May 2018 02:34 (five years ago) link

another new about 32 mins into this:

https://www.nts.live/shows/test-pressing/episodes/test-pressing-12th-may-2018

the whole project feels very "Seventh Heaven" doesn't it

boxedjoy, Tuesday, 15 May 2018 08:40 (five years ago) link

Sounds a lot like Maurice Fulton's prior work with Kathy Diamond on Miss Diamond to You (2006).

Microtransgressions as a Business Model (Sanpaku), Tuesday, 15 May 2018 14:00 (five years ago) link

pointless anecdote but i met kathy diamond at a carboot fair last summer. would never have recognised her but she was selling a load of household things - furniture and stuff like that - and on the ground under a table i spotted a pile of about 20 records which turned out to be all the last remaining copies of her debut 12" so i was all 'ah wait a second, is this you!?'

i'm surprised to see your screwface at the door (NickB), Tuesday, 15 May 2018 14:39 (five years ago) link

I always think of the first Kathy Diamond album as being very weightless and floaty in a different way to this. I love her, everything she sings on is instantly brilliant. What did she say when you realised it was her? I heard she had been very ill for a few years.

boxedjoy, Tuesday, 15 May 2018 15:41 (five years ago) link

oh i just asked her some fairly boring general questions about making music cos unfortunately my knowledge of her music is about as deep as an ant's bathtub. all that was running through my mind was 'oooh I seen your name! On ILX!'

Britain's Sexiest Cow (jed_), Sunday, 24 June 2018 22:32 (five years ago) link

that's how I felt about her last albums but I'm the opposite with these singles, they are much more direct and distinctive

boxedjoy, Monday, 25 June 2018 07:27 (five years ago) link

^ take her up to monto is great

mind how you go (Ross), Monday, 25 June 2018 09:56 (five years ago) link

I feel the opposite to you boxedjoy

All my dreams is a little too agitated for me unless I’m in the right mood. I mean Fulton was a good choice but his house of glass remix is superior imo

loving the EPs released this year - hope she does a full length soon or a LP with Fulton, they have serious chemistry

Ross, Tuesday, 7 August 2018 16:38 (five years ago) link

based on her recent interviews that doesn't seem to be a space she's right now

Number None, Tuesday, 7 August 2018 16:40 (five years ago) link

*space she's in

Number None, Tuesday, 7 August 2018 16:40 (five years ago) link

While I'm not terribly familiar with the Fulton collaboration EPs, I believe that's a new Murphy/Fulton track at 37:40.

Roomba with an attitude (Sanpaku), Sunday, 19 August 2018 18:18 (five years ago) link

Sorry, that's just Jackie Moore - "This Time Baby" (1979), not listed in the track listing.

Sadly shows how shallow my disco knowledge is, despite decades of interest.
