yea him and Thames being the heroes of the game reminds me why I love this team so much

Jesus Aguilar!

Guayaquil (eephus!), Monday, 23 April 2018 15:15 (five years ago) link

Davey Nelson :(

frogbs, Monday, 23 April 2018 15:16 (five years ago) link

years ago I saw some post-game segment where he and the Rock tossed a ball around to demonstrate... something. I don't remember what but it was charming as hell. That guy was so good on air, such a lovable presence. Can only imagine how much his absence will be felt by those who knew him.

Evan R, Monday, 23 April 2018 17:09 (five years ago) link

yeah I know someone who used to work on the Brewers' media team, he said Davey was just as friendly and affable as he came off on camera. really loved how he was always so positive about the team, even when they got their ass kicked.

frogbs, Monday, 23 April 2018 18:06 (five years ago) link

8 straight, baby !

yeah, I know who they've been playing against. but still

sucks to see Thames land on the DL. wonder if Braun is gonna see some time there now.

frogbs, Thursday, 26 April 2018 14:26 (five years ago) link

Hopeful the extra playing time snaps Santana from his slump. This is getting hard to watch

Evan R, Friday, 27 April 2018 00:29 (five years ago) link

just like last year at this point, i can't tell which team i want to win! the cubs are off to a slow start but still seem like the odds-on favorite to win by the end of the year. but then again i wouldn't be surprised to see the brew crew end up at the top either, especially if the pitching is decent.

Karl Malone, Friday, 27 April 2018 01:18 (five years ago) link

two weeks pass...

So some 21 year old fill in starter just struck out 13 in 5.2, god damn

Wonder if they’ll send him back down now

frogbs, Sunday, 13 May 2018 21:45 (five years ago) link

Even better, his family came to watch him pitch in Colorado Springs, wound up getting to see him in the majors instead

frogbs, Sunday, 13 May 2018 22:00 (five years ago) link

first NL team to 30 wins

didn't foresee

send him out for the 9th imo

frogbs, Wednesday, 13 June 2018 20:44 (five years ago) link

man if you'd have told me in 2010 that 8 years later we'll have the NL's best record in June with our two best players being Lorenzo Cain and Jeremy Jeffress....

frogbs, Thursday, 14 June 2018 03:20 (five years ago) link

Aguilar's having a pretty good year huh

frogbs, Saturday, 23 June 2018 19:34 (five years ago) link

Freddy tonight: 7 IP, 10 K, 1 BB, 1 Hit, 0 ER. guess he's probably gonna stay in the bigs now.

Josh Hader is in damage control mode over some terrible tweets:

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Wednesday, 18 July 2018 05:47 (five years ago) link

Presuming he shows UNFAILINGLY sincere remorse, I suspect there should be a year or two of diverse community outreach in Hader's future.

wow those tweets are wretched. at first i thought they might be fake because they were almost too brutal to be believed.

on the plus side for hader, he's extremely talented so the yankees or the dodgers will give him a nice contract in a few years, regardless of him being a terrible asshole

Karl Malone, Wednesday, 18 July 2018 16:21 (five years ago) link

He's getting diversity training per MLB press release. We'll see perhaps if it was just a 17yo asshole phase.

Suter out with a UCL, Tommy John likely

really sucks for him, he was one of my favorite players on the team but also the sort of middling pitcher who most likely won't come back from this :/

wonder how often a team goes scoreless for 13 consecutive innings and still wins

frogbs, Monday, 27 August 2018 03:59 (five years ago) link

The Brew Crew / Reds game tonight has turned into a beer league soft ball game.

earlnash, Thursday, 30 August 2018 02:01 (five years ago) link

yeah this game has been insane. Yelich having the game of his career: 5 for 5, a cycle, and an outfield assist. Moose not doing too bad either

frogbs, Thursday, 30 August 2018 02:49 (five years ago) link

6 for 6 now. And yet the Brewers are on the verge of blowing another 19 hit night, thanks to bad pitching, a bunch of fluke plays, and some real questionable umping decisions

frogbs, Thursday, 30 August 2018 03:18 (five years ago) link

wound up being a 22 hit night and they needed all 22 of them, holy shit this game

frogbs, Thursday, 30 August 2018 03:56 (five years ago) link

Reds are terrible, but they have played in a handful of just totally bonkers games this year.

na (NA), Thursday, 30 August 2018 12:21 (five years ago) link

Yelich is really impressive. His build and swing reminds me of Von Hayes, but Yelich is a better player.

Reds are terrible, but they have played in a handful of just totally bonkers games this year.

Milwaukee have too - I was at the game Friday where they were held scoreless for 13 innings and still walked it off with a 3-run 15th. using the bottom of their order too

Brewers-Reds games have been nuts this year, though unfortunately the subtext always seems to be "HOW THE HELL COULD YOU LET SCOOTER GENNETT GO??"

frogbs, Thursday, 30 August 2018 13:20 (five years ago) link

btw I'm glad they won so I don't have to be upset about this anymore

tbh I wasn't too bullish on this season b/c a lot of players had breakout years in 2017 and I didn't know how repeatable that was. Thames, Santana, and Pina all regressed this year (I thought Shaw did too, but apparently his increased BB% made up for it), while most of last year's starting pitchers were notably worse this year, and our top guy Jimmy Nelson didn't pitch at all. All those offseason moves really worked out.

Since the break, Yelich is hitting .367/.449/.770 in 64 games, and down the stretch he has been nearly impossible to get out.

Over his last 13 games, Yelich is 21-for-43 with six home runs, five doubles and two triples. That’s 13 extra-base hits in just 12 games, and he’s driven in 21 runs while scoring 17 times. He walked 14 times, including all five times last Wednesday to finish off a sweep of the Cardinals, one of eight straight victories the Brewers finished the season with.

at a certain point, team-specific threads started to seem unnecessary with the small number of regulars on ILB, and some people started just posting on the general season thread instead. but that isn’t a hard and fast rule and some of the team-specific threads are pretty popular. but that’s why you don’t see a 2023 thread for every single team.

na (NA), Wednesday, 31 May 2023 23:20 (ten months ago) link

Makes sense. I'm glad I started the Rays thread, though.
