I kept watching. Second half of the set much better.

i've been watching bits and pieces of the beyonce set, the mix on the stream was very bad at the start (fairly standard for the coachella stream though) but it got better as it went on

she brought out Jay, Solange, Destiny's Child and a marching band, sang and danced most of the time and the energy level never dipped for 2 solid hours, i ain't never seen nothing like that.

This is one of those situations where the two weekend thing makes it all a bit strange when the second one rolls around. Like...how could she top that? (Alternately, imagine her coming out and just doing a quiet Unplugged thing next week for two hours.)

I had a thought similar to this last night. Like, however much she's getting paid, she's getting paid regardless. She didn't have to do all that! But she did, which I guess is why she's the biggest musical artist on Earth.

But last night ... fully insane is right ... Questlove had a good tweet last night the second it ended about how much was going on and how much work it must've been.

My assumption here is that she gets paid a fee, and then she (her team/corp/whatever) pays some production cost (and so does Coachella). So she could take her fee, bring a 6-piece band and perform her stuff and take home the rest of the money, or she could take her fee, bring in 200 people including a marching band, dozens of dancers, etc., etc., and make less money, right?

So she chooses to do the latter because ... I don't know, she's Beyonce and wants to stay Beyonce?

I’m still sour that the company I kept had us leave before the end of Prince’s set in 2008, which was a little less of a spectacle of numbers but definitely not less of a spectacle of talent

Beyonce was special, i couldn't go to bed until it ended and i was so tired.

Maybe I’m cynical but Beyonce benefits from giving it all on a Coachella performance even if that means using all the fee money on the show (which I seriously doubt)

It kind of blew my mind when I realized that the string section was not wired but had still learned the arrangements and were miming them with believable accuracy-- to learn that much music to mime it onstage? my god

That was more than a full Vegas show and for what? two performances? She couldn't possibly tour that number of people

There must be some drug that Beyonce takes to inhibit sweating because I cannot believe a human is capable of that much performance without even breaking a sweat

The twins looked like Eric Andre wearing a wig, when my friend pointed it out I couldn't unsee it

There was not a single non-black person onstage

I felt, the first time I watched Lemonade, that I was truly experiencing something seismic, and I felt it again last night while watching that performance

I said "what is it about Beyonce that is so Virgo" and bf said "she has that smugness like a kid who did their homework perfectly"

idk I'm pretty winded, I feel irrelevant as a musician, I feel thrilled to have witnessed that, and I'm probably going to watch it again and again for a long time
