Beach House - 7 (2018)

Feel like this album deserves its own thread. So far the 3 singles point to a more shoegaze direction which is basically what I wished for when I heard “sparks” on DC. More live drums, distorted synth waves interlaced with guitar - anticipating this hard

shoegave, now this has my attention!

Dark spring doesn’t do much for me - probably one of their most by the numbers singles

unsurprisingly, it's exquisite!

the production is very 'dry' in an otherworldly and haunting way. sometimes grim, sometimes beautiful.

it's like they took the vibe of 'Thank Your Lucky Stars,' but moved it into outer space and replaced the chamber-y organs with sinister synths.

Black Car is their best song since Irene imo. Saimiliar atmosphere too.

Last Ride. Amazing.
Prediction: this record will be considered a Dream Pop/Shoegaze classic on the future

Last single sounded a lot like broadcast

I've been playing this for the past week or so now and I think it's already up there as one of my favourites of theirs. The transition from 'Dark Spring' into 'Pay No Mind' is so great. Aside from those two, 'Drunk In LA' and 'Lose Your Smile' are really hitting me hard so far.

Great record imo. Up there with Teen Dream as their best. It's their MPV in a way.

Based on the singles this sounds like a bummer record.

it's just kind of weird for there to be an epic guitar solo in a beach house song and for it to totally make sense

God-DAMN this is sounding good. "Drunk in LA" is my new favorite Beach House song.

the little found audio snippets used in "Woo" are really interesting. it would be easy for them to be distracting but somehow they fit right in

the production is hard to nail down in that it does sometimes remind me a bit of broadcast, but it more often resembles JAMC / stadium rock

Loved this album from first listen and it's a grower. Now i think it will be a classic.
The melodies are superb too.

Love the enthusiasm here, because I missed the last couple of Beach House albums, and by missed I mean didn't listen to, but I really want to hear this one now.

Pay No Mind rubbed me the wrong way—one of the chord progressions made me grind my teeth—but the rest of the album is lovely.

Oh wait, wrong song. It was actually Dark Spring. Remove the first track of the album, and the rest of it's a delight.

they are going on stage in about an hour and i'm not there! truth be told, Saturday Night would be so much better.

niels - they are amazing live!

saw them on DC-TYLS tour. Highlights were anything from Bloom, beyond love and elegy to the void wherein victoria and the dude ripped the solos together! i think victoria was doing the feedback. they also played a special show for 100 a pop or so at an art gallery and played the majority of the last two records primarily to an audience in close proximity. I would see them every time they tour

good stuff, may catch them in october

I saw them on the Bloom tour, great show, the band sounded ace and the set design was very cool as well. Unfortunately they had to cut the set short because of an approaching thunderstorm, so I didn't get to hear the finale of "10 Mile Stereo">"Irene".

i see them every time they play dublin and am seeing them again in october. absolutely wonderful live band.

Saw them a few years back at the Fillmore and it was a massive, impeccable, and gorgeous set. Think it lasted more than 2 hours and it was simply amazing. I bet they're even better now and wish I could have found tickets

I think they’re a singles band

i feel empty inside because i assumed it would be a grower for me but it doesn't seem to be growing. however, i initially felt the same about depresso cherry and thank your lucky starz, and then after revisiting them long after release i eventually grew to love them. so maybe i'll just wait a year or two.

It's the same ebb and flow for me and Beach House were I will intensely love an album for a short period of time, not care about it for several months, see years, and go back it and love it even more.

Sparks was so good when it came out ; DC didn’t get any better than that

levitation is probably the best dream pop song of all time so it does get a bit better

They’re neither a singles or an album band. They work in small doses.

One of the most straight-up rock songs they've done.

I saw Beach House and My Bloody Valentine at the same venue, within a month of each other, this year. Both were loud, dreamy, and had spectacularly colorful animated projections. With this song, Beach House have more or less turned into MBV. So I want them to form a supergroup now, even though both groups seem sort of insular and might just cancel each other out.
