anyone else get IA working in office jobs surrounded by paper? Sometimes I feel like I'm in a boring version of Brazil - claustrophobic nightmare

I am spending most of my time working in a totally disorganised archive amidst stacks of sometimes decades old folders atm and it does have a whiff of disconnection and ennui but overall it's pretty cushy

Would prefer being surrounded by paper to people tbh

I don't like how in prolonged close quarters, like road trips, my family gravitates toward smelly snacks.

If I type 6 consequetive digits into a Google Keep document it treats it as a phone number, highlights it wrongly and makes changing it later twice as difficult (because it gives me a call / edit option)

705 / 713 is a phone number according to them when in reality it's just a fraction. ANSI standard dates also.

An annoyance I face every day is automated news. Specifically, I have to follow news regarding certain companies in connection with my job, and use google news alerts to track them. But my google news alert now gets clogged up with these bot-written pieces that are just like "Why You Should Consider Buying X Company Stock" or and then it just spits out a bunch of stats that it pulls from the stock performance or the company's financials. No actual news. Once in a while an actual news story gets pushed down by these too.

Or bot sites that somehow update every single story to the current date each day. So if you're looking for news about Tyson Foods in the past 24 hours, why, some sites will have a whole plethora of news about Tyson Foods for you to enjoy.

It's summer and the windows are open. Which means opposite neighbour's scooter alarm isn't filtered out by the double glazing. Every time he sets or unsets it it sounds like aliens are launching some kind of laser attack.

Is this at work or in life? I have started getting irrationally angry at friends who text me all day long to complain about banal stuff that everyone hates or links to stuff that everyone has seen because we all look at the same sites.

I have whatsapp on my desktop and that's fine but I have started to hate texts when them come in on my cell because of the distracting notifications while I am trying to actually use the phone.

anyway, i've had a pension with a company since 2001, but haven't paid into it since losing that job in 2004 or so. they have changed their name 4 times in that time.

Oh man, I think mine's much worse than what y'all are describing! I'm talking "morning zoo DJ", which, at its quietest, becomes "morning zoo DJ getting serious for a minute in order to Thank The Troops". I probably shouldn't have said "groomed" when when I meant was "primed to project"

one of my neighbors in college had done some radio and voice work and, while his normal voice was a little too affectedly bombastic at times, his "radio voice" was definitely in that vein

I think he might have gotten more varied, but his voice acting intonation was 90% something you'd expect to hear from a cartoon lion character

I can't stand the one-sided phone conversations I hear in other cars — obviously I can't hear the actual person who's there next to me, but the person on the other end, whose voice is barreling out of five different speakers, yes, them I can hear.

I passed a Jeep on Pike Avenue the other day, slowing down before my turn just long enough to hear a woman say, "You sound like you're in a really bad mood, Rodney." I never asked for this.
