Meshell Ndegeocello Ventriloquism Originals Poll

was emotionally destroyed by Meshell's version of "Sometimes It Snows in April" while walking to work this morning and decided that the only prescription was a poll of these classics.

wonderful poll idea except that it is impossible for me to choose between "tender love" and "don't disturb this groove"

the fact that all these songs are such undeniable classics makes the Meshell album even more impressive, honestly

i've narrowed my options down to 6.

Tender Love, didn't realise how much I needed a folk+rocksteady version of it until I had one.

Loved every single one of these apart from Funny How Time Flies. Replaces the wistful buoyancy of the original with a turgid dirge, to no benefit imo.

Probably pretty immersive in the right mood with good enough speakers/booze but hasn't grown on me as of yet.

i'll prob go for "tender love" bc the spareness of its arrangement stands out even among other jam/lewis productions

Smooth Operator but these are all jams. Weirdly, I didnt care much for the Meshell album.

Awww, I though "Sometimes it Snows..." would win.

Turned on NPR the other day and was like "what is this jam band version of Atomic Dog, damnit Chris Thile" and then felt bad upon realizing it was Meshell.

Finally got this from the library. It's quite a feeling to be in love with a covers album from the first two songs, and then notice the next three are Sometimes It Snows In April, Waterfalls & Atomic Dog (!!)

Not a fan of her as an artist but I did love her Hendrix may this be love cover so really want to hear this. Her voice is so dead a lot of the time though so cannot imagine her improving any of these originals. Would have voted for Janet though.

She did a decent version of bill withers who is he... too.
