Nice track! Just saw this was song of the week on Popjustice.

She seems focused on a very particular late 80s/early 90s shoegazey jangly sound ...somewhere between The Ocean Blue and The Sundays. Maybe with a little Lush mixed in.

To further turn this into the unofficial Hatchie admiration thread, here's "Sleep"

oh I didn't realise she was in Babaganouj, they're great and so is her solo stuff

I didn't either!!

have we talked about Børns on these threads yet? Maybe counts as pop idk
― kinder, Tuesday, 15 May 2018 14:37 (one year ago) link
Børns is def not my thing, but this seems like an okay place for him.
similarly, I can't decide if Clara La San goes in rolling pop or rolling R&B or somewhere else, but I'm really digging the mixtape she put out at the end of the last year, so here you go:
sonically in the same universe as someone like Tai Shi with production assistance from Jam City.

Clara La San sounds great.
I've been quietly enjoying quite a few things in this thread this year. Was moved to create a Spotify playlist:
― Maximum big surprise! (Nag! Nag! Nag!), Tuesday, 15 May 2018 23:06 (one year ago) link
the whole Hatchie EP is great! i mean nothing revolutionary but very solid dream-pop
― ufo, Friday, 25 May 2018 16:04 (one year ago) link
reiterating maura's post way upthread: thea & the wild album is excellent shambhala

the new ep by eleanor k (formerly kyiki) is under the radar but very promising; this in particular gets really, really good around 1:30
― aloha darkness my old friend (katherine), Sunday, 1 July 2018 03:26 (one year ago) link
Is there also a 'shambhala' video genre? Shining a torch round a carpark in New Zealand seems pretty shambhala.

saw Hatchie tonight and she was really excellent. she played the whole ep plus a few new ones (that were great) and did Kylie's Some Kind of Bliss too
― ufo, Saturday, 14 July 2018 12:28 (one year ago) link
this song by Sleep Thieves is both great, dramatic/atmospheric as fuck, and doesn't run out of ideas like so many similar tracks do

I just watched the Netflix queer teen comedy Alex Strangelove, whose soundtrack is like a treasure trove of this (sub?) genre, with MUNA's "I Know a Place" and Kristen Kontrol's "Show Me" being the tracks I immediately recognized in the film. Someone on Spotify made a playlist of all 52(!) used in the film, and while I'm guessing a good chunk of it isn't really Shambhalesque at all, it might at least be worth a scan through:

I could swear there was a rolling 2018 ambient/ethereal music thread but I can't find it. I've been obsessively listening to Mary Lattimore's newest this week at work. The whole album is great, but I could listen to the opening track for days:

i love the guitar tones on this
― maura, Monday, 24 September 2018 14:12 (one year ago) link
YES! I've been tracking her for a couple years. I'm psyched for the album.
― Johnny Fever, Monday, 24 September 2018 14:31 (one year ago) link
really like this
as far as shambhala albums go this year, I liked Mozaika by Onuka quite a lot, and I want to plug WEDNESDAY CAMPANELLA - Galapagos to anyone who hasn't heard it, they're the best pop group in the world right now
― ufo, Friday, 5 October 2018 04:28 (one year ago) link
I already posted something upthread, but this is my fave track from Priest's "The Lost Lions" EP. I'm getting some Washed Out vibes

My Brain On Love by Young Dreams has in 2018 given me constant cravings to hear it and constant vague dissatisfaction when actually hearing it. I can't think of many other songs like that. I therefore can't say whether it's great or not, but you should probably give it a go and decide for yourself
― imago, Friday, 9 November 2018 18:35 (one year ago) link
Actually I'm quite enjoying it today. I think as long as it sticks to that chorus it's good, and it does stick to it a lot
― imago, Friday, 9 November 2018 18:42 (one year ago) link
the eliza shaddad album is lovely btw

xp yeah I listened to it about 8 times in a row and decided it's one of the songs of the year - how was I ever ambivalent?
― imago, Monday, 12 November 2018 21:46 (one year ago) link
the Young Dreams album is pretty enjoyable
I really like Sir Babygirl's run of singles this year, looking forward to her album next year

New Teen album due in March. Their pastiche is so amped-up that it stands apart from other similar bands.
― tangenttangent, Monday, 3 December 2018 21:53 (one year ago) link
TEEN's debut single "better" is one of my favourite pieces of music from the past 5? 10? years
so it makes me sad to say: this song sucks
― sean gramophone, Tuesday, 4 December 2018 16:11 (one year ago) link
TEEN's entire Love Yes album was kind of incredible and yeah this is nowhere near that level
― imago, Tuesday, 4 December 2018 16:41 (one year ago) link
is there a 2019 thread yet? the Self Esteem record is sounding fucking great so far
― bhad bundy (Simon H.), Friday, 1 March 2019 04:04 (eleven months ago) link
the abovementioned Teen album is out today, I'm slightly nervous to check it
― imago, Friday, 1 March 2019 12:43 (eleven months ago) link
on third listen I like the Self Esteem record a whole lot, especially for how thoroughly unhip and unconcerned with sounding current it is (but also not self-consciously retro or whatever). it's smarter than it seems at first, too - "Girl Crush" for example is actually a repudiation of that term. it could probably stand to have lost a couple of tunes, but nothing drags individually.
― bhad bundy (Simon H.), Friday, 1 March 2019 18:49 (eleven months ago) link
I'll check it shortly! Teen was a massive disappointment tbh - they've ditched the non-sister and clearly lost any of her moderating influence, freeing them up to make a bad album
― imago, Saturday, 2 March 2019 12:35 (eleven months ago) link
obsessed with the self esteem album, especially its singles
― monotony, Wednesday, 6 March 2019 12:16 (eleven months ago) link
further listens have revealed it to be somewhat frontloaded

I have come across this apparently ungooglable band from compiling music at the end of 2019, I know nothing at all about them, videos seem to have very few views indeed.
They are called "Ice Cream"
Does anyone know anything about them?

Appears they’re from Toronto; I found a tranche of info with a little googling: http://exclaim.ca/amparticle/ice_cream_return_with_new_single_peanut_butter
