Wow I've never heard that^ before, but it sound so CLASSIC. I absolutely love it. I don't think Sally will ever top "He Keeps Me Alive" though. We'll see.

popjustice twittering about how the album is amazing. anybody heard it yet?

The Devil's Avocado (Gukbe), Wednesday, 1 July 2009 14:58 (fourteen years ago) link

She's worked with Tensnake on at least some of the tracks which makes me think it could be amazing. I'm hoping she ditches the italo and goes for the full-on widescreen, brightly-coloured Permanent Vacation sound. Although I haven't actually heard the single yet.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 1 July 2009 15:12 (fourteen years ago) link

The thunderbolts-as-orchestra-hits in "Miracle" are so awesome. I don't expect the new album to be that much different from "Disco Romance", although from the tracks I've heard, the production job seem to be a bit more rich & detailed.

Clips of the new album tracks are up on Amazon, which probably means the album has leaked...

Nothing really grabs my attention. Is it just me or is this already sounding kinda old (like, again)? I'm curious to hear the full version of "Moonlight Dance" though. That one doesn't sound bad at all.

Y tú, y tú, dime lo que bailas! (daavid), Tuesday, 11 August 2009 23:35 (fourteen years ago) link

It has leaked. And unfortunately, nothing except for "Let it Show" is grabbing me at all. Granted, I only really liked a few songs off of the first one, but at least on that one the other songs were not bad, definitely bearable. This one is for the most part skippable, at least for me.

After a half dozen listens, now thinking My Guilty Pleasure is as amazing as Disco Romance.

This Miracle number is channelling Dubstar big time. Gotta hear the rest.

The remixes from My Guilty Pleasure are brilliant, Boat Club's take on "Swimming Through The Blue Lagoon" is early-90s sounding melancholy slow-motion disco excellence.

anyone got johann's album? casablanca nights it's called. just listening first time now and it's sounding nice. it's on spotify. collaborations with legowelt and lots of people i've never heard of. some sally stuff on there too.

Phelan Nulty (Local Garda), Tuesday, 17 May 2011 09:29 (twelve years ago) link

I'm going to pick that up soon. In that vein I bought Anoraak's Whenever The Sun Sets the other day, it's really nice if a little forgettable. I like the way he and CFCF 'borrow' from other songs.

The whole Wolfram album is worth a listen if you are a SS fan. Lots of Hi-Nrg/poppy italo stuff, with an all-star list of guest spots by Legowelt, Sebastian, Hercules & Love Affair, Holy Ghost, Haddaway, Paul Parker, Patrick Pulsinger.

Michael F Gill, Wednesday, 18 May 2011 02:23 (twelve years ago) link

As in, the actual Haddaway

Haha wow this Wolfram album is great! High quality cheese. And I haven't got to the Haddaway song yet.

Matt DC, Saturday, 28 May 2011 15:38 (twelve years ago) link

Wow I love that Wolfram song. Is the whole album as good as that?

Kitchen Person, Sunday, 29 May 2011 09:01 (twelve years ago) link

That Wolfram song upthread is technically a Holy Ghost! song (well, it's on their album). He certainly milks it on his own album btw, think it appears three times in various forms?

Came upon this via the Lindstrom remix on Vol. 1 -- find "He Keeps Me Alive" and the Irkuk "Miracle" remix to be the aces so far.

I'm really liking this. It looks like they've decided to make a move away from Italo and more into a 'Club 8'/Labrador kinda sound. I like the sparse guitar by Jaime from Spanish pop act Souvenir, who also co-wrote. In fact this post is a bit of an excuse to recommend them:

Really hope it's a lot better than the second album which I can't remember a single thing about.

I'm hoping 'This City's Local Italo Disco DJ Has a Crush On Me' lives up to it's title.

Kitchen Person, Thursday, 6 December 2012 02:53 (eleven years ago) link

Second album was just as good as the first, I thought! Maybe a bit more focused even.

Michael F Gill, Saturday, 8 December 2012 06:12 (eleven years ago) link

First one always gave me a shy Japanese karaoke vibe but I've been trying to revisit and really give it a shot.

This is great, a huge improvement over the second album. The single is not representative of the album at all.

Kitchen Person, Tuesday, 19 February 2013 23:12 (eleven years ago) link

I must push back and say the second album is awesome. I find all three albums very consistent in songwriting, with a bump in production values as time goes on.

Looking forward to hearing this new one more. Glad "Don't be Afraid" made it out of semi-obscurity and onto the tracklisting. Also the saxophone solo in the middle of the album: sublime.

Michael F Gill, Tuesday, 26 February 2013 01:59 (eleven years ago) link

I wasn't a fan of "My Guilty Pleasure" either. This one's much better. Still nothing as strong, melodically, as some of the songs on the first album. The sound is reminiscent of some 80's stuff I can't quite put my finger on, but it's no longer Italo. Maybe Pet Shop Boys?
