aloha darkness my old friend (katherine), Monday, 2 April 2018 21:18 (six years ago) link

three months pass...

Is Night Time, My Time one of the more radical albums of the last decade? Like, what else even sounds like this. It's so insanely noisy and bit crushed, but still so damn catchy. I hope the new sees the light of day.

Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Wednesday, 25 July 2018 03:12 (five years ago) link

love it, went on another listen yesterday after '24 hours' came up on one of my old playlists

nxd, Wednesday, 25 July 2018 08:39 (five years ago) link

yeah one song sounds just like stereolab on night time - fantastic record tho, absolutely stands the test of time

Ross, Friday, 27 July 2018 17:14 (five years ago) link

the album is called masochism because that describes the act of opening this thread still expecting new music

aloha darkness my old friend (katherine), Friday, 27 July 2018 17:15 (five years ago) link

lol otm

Ross, Friday, 27 July 2018 17:19 (five years ago) link

dyl, Saturday, 28 July 2018 01:54 (five years ago) link

Probably will finish in the top ten if/when we do an albums of the 2010s poll

kornrulez6969, Saturday, 28 July 2018 02:09 (five years ago) link

I still have it in regular rotation on my "new music" playlist

Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Saturday, 28 July 2018 02:15 (five years ago) link

remember how we were supposed to get a 'visual EP' back in March lol

ufo, Saturday, 28 July 2018 04:04 (five years ago) link

The way I Will pulsates forwards + the riff still thrill me, 5 years later. When it's me your messing, I'm going to teach you a lesson oooh-oh.

sounds like she has stuff she wants to put out but her label doesn't want it out etc.

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bk6YxqhHzKs/?taken-by=skyferreira

here she says she's almost done with the first two singles for Masochism.. hopefully they'll indeed see the light of day soon

ufo, Saturday, 28 July 2018 21:40 (five years ago) link

sigh not again. seems like she has so few consistent allies at her label

another recent-ish "really hope i can put out something very very soon, my label's been screwing me over for years" post

ufo, Sunday, 29 July 2018 01:17 (five years ago) link

Why does anyone sign with a label at this point

albvivertine, Sunday, 29 July 2018 02:55 (five years ago) link

i still believe

J0rdan S., Sunday, 29 July 2018 03:42 (five years ago) link

I'll wait years between albums if it means she's spared by the label from recording Ryan Tedder shit like "Obsession" ad infinitum.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 29 July 2018 04:35 (five years ago) link

On a bit of a tweet spree this evening

Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Monday, 30 July 2018 04:42 (five years ago) link

'Why does anyone sign with a label at this point"

I assume she's under contract from several years ago and can't extricate herself yet.

akm, Monday, 30 July 2018 06:08 (five years ago) link

she signed to a major as a teen 9 years ago and has had nothing but drama with them ever since they failed to get an early hit with her

ufo, Monday, 30 July 2018 06:27 (five years ago) link

wait which song sounds like Stereolab? “Ain’t Your Right”?

the masseduction of lauryn hill (Stevie D(eux)), Monday, 30 July 2018 12:28 (five years ago) link

Omanko sounds like OLV 26

Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Monday, 30 July 2018 12:35 (five years ago) link

With a healthy dose of of Suicide as well as Stereolab

Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Monday, 30 July 2018 12:37 (five years ago) link

oh yeah I was thinking that one too

the masseduction of lauryn hill (Stevie D(eux)), Monday, 30 July 2018 13:30 (five years ago) link

after seeing her interviews and clips of her live performances tho I really do worry NTMT was a fluke and her follow up could very well be a dud.

the masseduction of lauryn hill (Stevie D(eux)), Monday, 30 July 2018 13:31 (five years ago) link

now starring in the black metal biopic Lords of Chaos(!!)

Is there a thread yet for "most disturbing pop songs to crack the top ten" yet?

Rod Steel (musicfanatic), Monday, 30 July 2018 22:58 (five years ago) link

Pretty faithful to the original, but also very 2018.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 30 July 2018 23:07 (five years ago) link

that Elliot Smith cover upthread is disturbing

antisocal (rip van wanko), Monday, 30 July 2018 23:29 (five years ago) link

cover is surprisingly great for a scratch thing

anza808, Tuesday, 31 July 2018 03:31 (five years ago) link

yeah I was pretty impressed with his guitar playing - that is a hard song to play. no indication in any of DIIV's music that he can play that well. her vocals sound good, too. but it is a heroin song, given the circumstances of the time, i get why it's dark.

flappy bird, Tuesday, 31 July 2018 04:21 (five years ago) link

the slight dip in the melody of "of" in "there must be something he's thinking of." is great.

fact checking cuz, Tuesday, 31 July 2018 06:56 (five years ago) link

Great cover - on record at least she's always had about twice the vocal presence and intensity of Aimee Mann, so it's no surprise that she plumbs something more from this obviously good song than fools like me ever knew was there.

On the topic of the follow-up album, can't anybody Extraordinary Machine this shit? Free Sky!

It's like an Christian pop (thewufs), Tuesday, 31 July 2018 07:20 (five years ago) link

Aimee>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>sky

President Keyes, Tuesday, 31 July 2018 13:21 (five years ago) link

Yeah, it's a good song for her, but as a demo it sounds pretty undercooked, and doesn't add much to the original.

I am glad that she's starting to put stuff out there and communicate more. I take it as a sign that we will get a new album before too long.

Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Tuesday, 31 July 2018 13:45 (five years ago) link

excuse me

princess of hell (BradNelson), Tuesday, 31 July 2018 14:54 (five years ago) link
