Sal Perez out a month or two with an MCL sprain induced by luggage

officer sonny bonds, lytton pd (mayor jingleberries), Wednesday, 28 March 2018 23:06 (six years ago) link

the Giants winning three World Series in this decade curse continues:

Lincecum is dealing with a blister on his right middle finger, slowing down what was going to be an already tight schedule to make the Opening Day roster.

He was signed on March 7 and has thrown just two live batting practices since arriving in camp. Lincecum was supposed to pitch Friday against the Padres but scratched because of the blister.

"It's not bad today," Lincecum said. "Definitely desensitized. Just because it's feeling better one day doesn't mean it's 100 percent ready to go. Kind of rebuild that callus over the hole and then take the next step."

The next step will be to return to Texas with the Rangers, resume his throwing program and then go on a medical rehabilitation assignment to Double-A Frisco. The Rangers have no timetable on when he'll be able to rejoin the team.

very reminiscent of the steelers winning four super bowls in the 70s curse -- most of those players are struggling now, and the rest are dead

mookieproof, Thursday, 29 March 2018 02:12 (six years ago) link

its a blister. a bit much for a curse.

Nelson Cruz slipped on the dugout steps after hitting a home run Saturday against Cleveland and was removed from the game. While his X-rays were negative, he'll also be having an MRI Sunday, so there remains the possibility that the issue is more than a minor one. The severity of the issue should become clear when the results of the MRI are released.

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Saturday, 31 March 2018 23:35 (six years ago) link

The Padres placed Wil Myers on the disabled list with nerve irritation.

Christian Yelich suffered an oblique injury but the severity is not yet known for the Brewers outfielder.

Brian Buxton was on the DL for migraines... broke his toe after fouling a pitch off it in a rehab game.

OR

Jake Lamb on the DL for AC sprain in his left shoulder, developed tendinitis in his right elbow, will miss another couple weeks.

9:55am: Molina will miss at least four weeks after suffering a “pelvic injury with traumatic hematoma,” the Cardinals announced (Twitter links via Joe Trezza of MLB.com). They’ve placed him on the DL and recalled Kelly. The club also recalled reliever Mike Mayers, who will take Dominic Leone’s place. Leone is headed to the DL with “right arm upper nerve irritation.”

8:11am: Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina underwent surgery Saturday after being hit in the groin by a foul tip, president of baseball operations John Mozeliak confirmed to Jose de Jesus Ortiz of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. The Cardinals are now expected to go without Molina for at least a month.

that's a paper transaction so he can continue getting into game shape -- he's playing third in columbus today

mookieproof, Monday, 3 September 2018 17:26 (five years ago) link

and hit a grand slam

mookieproof, Monday, 3 September 2018 20:15 (five years ago) link

Not sure what to make of that, he didn't get included in the September call-ups and yet hit a grand slam against a guy who also didn't make the 40-man roster.

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Tuesday, 4 September 2018 18:44 (five years ago) link

he's on a rehab assignment, backdated a few days before the trade. he'll be on the indians sometime next week. they're moving jose ramirez to 2B and kipnis to CF to make room for donaldson at 3B

Karl Malone, Tuesday, 4 September 2018 18:47 (five years ago) link

uh, also ohtani hit a HR tonight (a 361-ft home run, but still). he's still cleared to hit

Karl Malone, Thursday, 6 September 2018 02:33 (five years ago) link

They say it's possible he could play the outfield next year even after TJ? I'm not sure how that would work -- outfielders still have to throw.

NoTimeBeforeTime, Thursday, 6 September 2018 04:06 (five years ago) link

gleyber torres had TJ in late june last year, was hitting at the beginning of spring training and playing shortstop no later than the first week of april. so it seems like if he had the surgery now, he might not miss all that much time as a hitter next year. throwing in the upper 90s might be a good bit longer, tho

Gregor Polanco out for ROS with significant bone bruise in leg as well as shoulder issue.

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Saturday, 8 September 2018 21:25 (five years ago) link

other AL contenders are reportedly upset about the donaldson trade to clevo -- the jays certified him as major-league healthy and only healthy players can go through waivers (which i didn't know), so his immediate DL-ing and rehab stint should have been unnecessary

kinda sounds like the jays broke the rules and the other teams are mad that they were unable to reap the benefit while the indians did

mookieproof, Sunday, 9 September 2018 17:54 (five years ago) link

brad peacock has hand/foot/mouth disease

sean manaea is having shoulder surgery and will be out until 2020

mookieproof, Tuesday, 11 September 2018 21:23 (five years ago) link

Re: the Donaldson thing... every team had the same opportunity as the Indians. The jays may have gotten cute with the rules, but I don’t see how the Indians had an advantage over anyone else.

Mad Piratical (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Wednesday, 12 September 2018 03:14 (five years ago) link

well, the indians had the worst record of the AL playoff teams, so they got to make the waiver claim first

mookieproof, Wednesday, 12 September 2018 13:06 (five years ago) link

I think Donaldson cleared waivers? If he didn’t then, ya, I could see how that might be a problem.
