ONE vote for Over & Over??? Say it isn't so! That is WRONG

Bimble, Monday, 11 June 2007 03:38 (sixteen years ago) link

Christine didn't get a fair shake in general, in my opinion.

kingkongvsgodzilla, Monday, 11 June 2007 03:39 (sixteen years ago) link

Yeah, when I show up at your houses with my Christine picket signs, you won't be happy.

Bimble, Monday, 11 June 2007 03:40 (sixteen years ago) link

This may help, king kong.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Monday, 11 June 2007 11:59 (sixteen years ago) link

Please don't picket me, I voted for "Brown Eyes."

The Deacon, Monday, 11 June 2007 13:55 (sixteen years ago) link

t/s: brown eyes v. emerald eyes

elmo argonaut, Monday, 11 June 2007 14:04 (sixteen years ago) link

"Tusk"!!! WTF.

Steve Shasta, Monday, 11 June 2007 19:38 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm surprised so many people are taken aback by how well "Tusk" did. I have pretty close to zero tolerance for any Fleetwood Mac outside of "Tusk" which I've loved since I was a kid.

EZ Snappin, Monday, 11 June 2007 22:58 (sixteen years ago) link

"Tusk" is a special song, and I think it holds up well today.

I can't understand love for Christine McVie's songs, shit is boring.

Trip Maker, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 15:55 (sixteen years ago) link

Christine McVie is like the endpoint minimal techno of Fleetwood Mac: you come around to her after you're exhausted/burnt out on everything else and she suddenly sounds like the best thing ever.

Tim F, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 15:59 (sixteen years ago) link

OTM. I won't deny that she's a snooze on her own, but the word "context" was meant for her.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 16:01 (sixteen years ago) link

Are any McVie solo albums worth picking up? i assume from that post the answer is no.

Tim F, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 16:02 (sixteen years ago) link

Download "Got A Hold On Me." That's all you need.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 16:07 (sixteen years ago) link

"never make me cry" is one of my favorite songs on this record

"sara" would've gotten my vote ultimately

impudent harlot, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 16:22 (sixteen years ago) link

one month passes...

I'm sorry, I've really looked through a lot of threads on Fleetwood Mac and I can't find the bit where someone turned me on to the 1980 live stuff. The version of "Dreams" on that is to die for.

Bimble, Sunday, 15 July 2007 15:31 (sixteen years ago) link

Oh my GOD if the live 1980 version of "Rhiannon" doesn't curl your toes...nothing will.

Bimble, Sunday, 15 July 2007 15:35 (sixteen years ago) link

That enthusiasm!

I know, right?, Sunday, 15 July 2007 15:37 (sixteen years ago) link

Tusk is Lindsay's show as far as I'm concerned.

I know, right?, Sunday, 15 July 2007 15:38 (sixteen years ago) link

I know there are folks who feel that way, but ignore Christine???? Christ we could fight all night about this. I choose peace.

Bimble, Sunday, 15 July 2007 15:41 (sixteen years ago) link

Big Lindsay show on "Oh well" on this 1980 live thing. Yay-uh. Fabulous stuff.

Bimble, Sunday, 15 July 2007 15:44 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm only half there on the McVie entries. I mean, Over and Over is obviously fantastic, and so is Honey Hi and Brown Eyes, but she almost cancels it out with Think About Me, am I the only one squarely annoyed by this song? A lot of it may have to do with the production on it, I don't think Buckingham really got this one. At all.

I know, right?, Sunday, 15 July 2007 15:44 (sixteen years ago) link

Okay, I really want to hear this by the way.

Fleetwood Nac, there you go. Brillaint.

Bimble, Sunday, 15 July 2007 15:52 (sixteen years ago) link

Look, this live 1980 thing as almost as good as heroin, I imagine. Don't deprive yourself.

Bimble, Sunday, 15 July 2007 15:54 (sixteen years ago) link

That's very good, but you're not telling me anything else about it!

I know, right?, Sunday, 15 July 2007 15:54 (sixteen years ago) link

Back on topic, how did "That's all for everyone" place second? It's easily the worst track.

Uhh, missed this one. My vote for "Walk A Thin line" went missing too :(

Sara??? seriously? I like at least 8 songs on Tusk for than that one (basically all of Lindsey's). I'm sad that "That's Enough for Me" got the goose egg. And "Save Me a Place" with 1 vote? What is this world coming to?

Think About Me, am I the only one squarely annoyed by this song? A lot of it may have to do with the production on it, I don't think Buckingham really got this one. At all.

This song is fabulous, one of those great Christine-Lindsey collabs that melds his talent for subversion with her melodic smarts and sexual heat. I just love how the guitar sounds, especially after the second chorus. John does his trademark rock-steady thumping until he plays a few extra notes as the guitar plays major chords. As for the chorus, it's one of those Bernard Sumner-esque moments of lucidity that looks stupid on paper ("I don't hold you down/Maybe that's why you're around") but accrues more meaning when you don't separate it from the arrangement.

It took me a while to warm to this song (it was the third single too), but now it's probably Christine's best punchy rocker.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Sunday, 15 July 2007 19:33 (sixteen years ago) link

I think what is great about that couplet is the fact that both singers sound like they only realise the second line after they've sung the first. It's fabulous.

That said "What Makes You Think You're The One" is the song most cruelly robbed by this poll.
