Brainiac to thread!

Ken L (Ken L), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 19:32 (eighteen years ago) link

I killed the thread. For this I am sorry. Maybe if I fly backwards around the globe it will be restored to life.

Kal-El (Ken L), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 20:28 (eighteen years ago) link

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 02:35 (eighteen years ago) link

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 02:48 (eighteen years ago) link

Soda is the awesome! The burgers are the bomb.

Candicissima (candicissima), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 02:48 (eighteen years ago) link

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 02:49 (eighteen years ago) link

when your neighborhood watering hole is the alibi, well, you go to other neighborhoods.

i guess i should go to rope one of these days tho.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 02:50 (eighteen years ago) link

man, bars have the dumbest names these days.

The Pinup Girls of YANK (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 04:07 (eighteen years ago) link

neither of those bars are new

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 04:08 (eighteen years ago) link

there's a skeezy biker bar down the road from me here where the sign outside always reads "big ass chsburg $4." now that's a bar!

The Pinup Girls of YANK (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 04:11 (eighteen years ago) link

the place has no windows.

The Pinup Girls of YANK (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 04:12 (eighteen years ago) link

I spent the weekend before last in Crowne Heights/East Flatbush. It was pleasant, not much going on though.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 04:58 (eighteen years ago) link

'gax, are you on the SF-NY shuttle?

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 13:35 (eighteen years ago) link

waxyjax (waxyjax), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 13:52 (eighteen years ago) link

I don't think I've had a drink on Smith St since the night of the August '03 blackout, when I stopped into boat for some WATER on the trek home.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 13:55 (eighteen years ago) link

it was packed, yeah. we had a nice l'il corner table tho.

Hopefully not for long (cross yr fingers!)

Also, I will reply to your email this afternoon.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 14:49 (eighteen years ago) link

BOAT! I thought that place only existed when charltonlido is here, like as soon as his foot steps on the solid earth of America, this one storefront in Carroll Gardens flips around transformer-style and becomes Boat.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 16:38 (eighteen years ago) link

i had my birthday fap at boat last year, not that anyone besides geeta/rosemary/paul scifisoul showed up...

The Pinup Girls of YANK (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 17:11 (eighteen years ago) link

hey, I had my birthday FAP there, too!

tokyo nursery school: afternoon session (rosemary), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 19:35 (eighteen years ago) link

OUR birthday fap! :-)

The Pinup Girls of YANK (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 19:44 (eighteen years ago) link

Not that I was within 3000 miles of New York! Maybe everyone else was under the same impression as I was about Boat's magical transformative abilities, and thought you were fooling them.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 19:48 (eighteen years ago) link

one month passes...
Have any of you played in the Magnetic Field bar trivia contest (alt Wednesdays)? I might need some teammates, and you'd have a shot at the prize, he arrogantly claimed.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 16:19 (eighteen years ago) link

I've been hearing a lot about that place lately. It's on Atlantic and Henry, right? I like trivia! I've got a brain packed with useless info!

Candicissima (candicissima), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 17:00 (eighteen years ago) link

morbs, i was on my high school and college quiz bowl teams, so i'd be in.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 17:01 (eighteen years ago) link

president carter loves repetition (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 17:09 (eighteen years ago) link

I live a few blocks from there and used to be good at such stuff, so I'm in if you'll have me.

k/l (Ken L), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 17:22 (eighteen years ago) link

OK. There's one tonight, but I'm uncertain I can make it. The 27th p'rhaps.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 17:34 (eighteen years ago) link

And it turns out tonight's trivia was cancelled.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 18:55 (eighteen years ago) link

I can catch any one of a million skillion buses there. Let me know if there are any addl spots open on I Love Trivia team for next time.

Laurel, Wednesday, 13 July 2005 19:23 (eighteen years ago) link

Resurrect for next week...anyone in or have I killed the idea by offering to turn up?

Laurel, Friday, 22 July 2005 13:22 (eighteen years ago) link

I am down for this Wednesday @ MF. It'll be the last partly devised by Quizguru Chris.

On a more South Slopey note, Sunday is the first anniversary of the Commonwealth bar, and there are whispers there may be outrageous beer specials from 6-8pm:

http://brooklyn.citysearch.com/profile/41544222

I'll be the one playing the Fugs' "Nothing" to break up the 100 GbV songs so beloved by perpetually semi-conscious owner/barkeep Ray.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Friday, 22 July 2005 13:45 (eighteen years ago) link

ka-BUMP

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Saturday, 23 July 2005 16:30 (eighteen years ago) link

I'm still down for trivia. What time does it start?

Candicissima (candicissima), Saturday, 23 July 2005 16:34 (eighteen years ago) link

Da website says 8pm!

http://www.magneticbrooklyn.com/calendar.php

Who else?

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Monday, 25 July 2005 12:41 (eighteen years ago) link

I am currently broke and obv can't go without a penny to my name. Will try and come up with some dough by Wed eve because I do love a good pub quiz.

Q: What's the longest river in Ireland?

Laurel, Monday, 25 July 2005 12:52 (eighteen years ago) link

God you know there's a good punchline in that one somewhere.

I think Wednesday sounds marvelous, I will try and turn up for this.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 25 July 2005 17:30 (eighteen years ago) link

(I say "try" because I'm moving house this week, and I'm having difficulty even nominally controlling my own schedule.)

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 25 July 2005 17:31 (eighteen years ago) link

i may be there, i don't know for sure. i too am broke. what's the prizes? free drinxxx?

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 25 July 2005 17:40 (eighteen years ago) link

CASH and Cyclones tickets! (and it's an ALL '80s edition, so between my college years and you peepul's halcyon junior high era we should clean up)

My friend was struck in the shoulder by a toss from the Cyclone leftfielder on Saturday, Stenc -- that coulda been you!

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Monday, 25 July 2005 17:47 (eighteen years ago) link

yeah sorry i couldn't make it! i think wednesday should work. man am i broke, tho.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 25 July 2005 17:48 (eighteen years ago) link

Oh dear god, I know nothing of the '80s. My parents disapproved of popular culture on moral/social/religious bases and didn't allow unsupervised TV- or radio-exposure. Yes, we were more or less lucky they gave us crayons, so that we could color on the inside of our box.

I think the only thing I remember is all the lyrics to "Electric Blue" by Icehouse. Eh? EH??

Laurel, Monday, 25 July 2005 19:29 (eighteen years ago) link

80s! Yes!

All I did during the 80s was watch TV and eat crayons or whatever...

(kidding on the crayons)

Candicissima (candicissima), Monday, 25 July 2005 19:37 (eighteen years ago) link

I hear at Magnetic Field they include history too; that's why they say it's for "the Unwashed and Well-Read."

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Monday, 25 July 2005 19:38 (eighteen years ago) link

i am BACK in in the dt bk! count me in for trivia.

I hear at Magnetic Field they include history too; that's why they say it's for "the Unwashed and Well-Read."

Well, watch tv, read the almanac, and (not) eat crayons.

1-4 players says the site. Should we make a team plus alternates now or figure it out Wednesday?

Candicissima (candicissima), Monday, 25 July 2005 20:27 (eighteen years ago) link

Let's figure it out then? I assume ppl will decide to show up (or not) relatively late. If there are 5-8 folks wecan have a draft (plus a draught).

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 13:13 (eighteen years ago) link

I'll likely be there in my spooky eye-on-pyramid Information Awareness Office t-shirt (bespectacled redhead with curmudgeonly aura).

No pressure, since I'd be going anyway to see my friend Chris, but I *am* giving up a free "Aristocrats" screening for this.
