I'm sorry, you said Indian food was junk so your mouth is obviously broken in some way.

mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Friday, 23 March 2018 21:36 (six years ago) link

i mean doesn't mean i don't eat it or like it

F# A# (∞), Friday, 23 March 2018 21:37 (six years ago) link

If you cut down on the ghee or oil when making it, it's actually really healthy.

Yerac, Friday, 23 March 2018 21:38 (six years ago) link

the only cuisines I don’t much like are not controversial eg british

^ random article but there is a lot of info on it in other articles

we could have a thread just about empanadas

The best are salteñas. La Paz represent

droit au butt (Euler), Friday, 23 March 2018 21:53 (six years ago) link

chilean empanadas not fried and have the beef with raisins and hard-boiled egg? because that is definitely classic.

cthulhu original (Sufjan Grafton), Friday, 23 March 2018 21:57 (six years ago) link

a bit annoying to assemble, though, because you have to be careful about the number of raisins and bits of egg that sneak into each one.

cthulhu original (Sufjan Grafton), Friday, 23 March 2018 21:59 (six years ago) link

yeah those are empanadas de pino, i think they're pretty great

Louis Jägermeister (jim in vancouver), Friday, 23 March 2018 22:00 (six years ago) link

some indian food is like dehydrating vegetables at high heat with a bunch of spices and very little oil/ghee. it can be healthy.

cthulhu original (Sufjan Grafton), Friday, 23 March 2018 22:01 (six years ago) link

also daal seems to be healthy unless there's tons of ghee in the tadka, but adding butter to soup is the best way to move along the healthy/delicious curve

cthulhu original (Sufjan Grafton), Friday, 23 March 2018 22:03 (six years ago) link

Salteñas are the best

F# A# (∞), Friday, 23 March 2018 22:03 (six years ago) link

that said, my favorite indian food is fried potato and cheese balls + gravy, so you may have a point

cthulhu original (Sufjan Grafton), Friday, 23 March 2018 22:04 (six years ago) link

these Salteñas look like calzones. they are huge.

cthulhu original (Sufjan Grafton), Friday, 23 March 2018 22:05 (six years ago) link

Chilean empanadas have some serious issues with their dough. I've had a lot of bad empanadas here where the dough is way too dense or there is just too much of it.

Yerac, Friday, 23 March 2018 22:24 (six years ago) link

I also think the bread here is kind of terrible in general. But there is an Eric Kayser near where I live.

Yerac, Friday, 23 March 2018 22:25 (six years ago) link

too much dough is my problem with them

saltenas are meaaaty

i have the same problem with non-mexican tamales -- too much dough

i love that mexican tamales are like 50% meat

xpost if all the ingredients for pupusas were as prevalent or as easy as burritos I would probably prefer pupusas.

Yerac, Friday, 23 March 2018 22:29 (six years ago) link

totally agree about burgers and steaks, not my thing at all. I love other meat but those are boring

marcos, Friday, 23 March 2018 22:36 (six years ago) link

empanada dough is delicious. it is full of lard and butter. it is delicious pie crust.

cthulhu original (Sufjan Grafton), Friday, 23 March 2018 22:44 (six years ago) link

Some empanada dough. #notallempanadadough

I just showed my spouse a pic of locos mayos. He said "it looks chilean."

one month passes...

Look, this lady has made lasagna without bechamel, looks just lovely, very authentic

"I'm so pleased to have found this channel. This is what Lasagna should be about: meat, tomato puree and mince with onions. No bechamel sauce, no cheese and no herbs to confuse the taste buds. I like my food to simply exist in my mouth without drawing attention to it's self by having flavour. "

Yerac, Friday, 11 May 2018 13:46 (five years ago) link

flavor is the worst

Tapes 'n Tapes of Osho (Sufjan Grafton), Friday, 11 May 2018 14:03 (five years ago) link

why go to all this trouble when soylent has already been invented, is my question

Mahogany Loggins (bizarro gazzara), Friday, 11 May 2018 14:17 (five years ago) link

five months pass...

One would think restaurants that serve steak sandwiches would've figured out by now that the steak needs to be cut up into tiny pieces. FFS, such a waste.

Yerac, Thursday, 11 October 2018 18:14 (five years ago) link

i'll be on the front lines of the cilantro-backlash backlash

rip van wanko, Thursday, 11 October 2018 18:22 (five years ago) link

I don't quite understand parsley. I don't think I have the magic touch in the things I make with it.

Yerac, Thursday, 11 October 2018 18:25 (five years ago) link

I have tried putting a thin steak between bread and yeah that doesn't really work

rip van wanko, Thursday, 11 October 2018 18:32 (five years ago) link

I think the best steak I had on my Argentina vacation was a steak sandwich that was a thin steak on a roll, actually

I have measured out my life in coffee shop loyalty cards (silby), Thursday, 11 October 2018 18:42 (five years ago) link

Did they cut it so thin that it was easy to tear when biting into the sandwich?

CUT MY STEAK INTO PIECES
THIS IS MY LUNCH REQUEST

hey, nifty clam! (bizarro gazzara), Thursday, 11 October 2018 18:50 (five years ago) link

burgers aren't that good. i don't get em

marcos, Thursday, 11 October 2018 18:50 (five years ago) link

feel the same way about steak tbh

marcos, Thursday, 11 October 2018 18:51 (five years ago) link

oh gah, I think burgers are way way overrated. But this goes back to that burger vs pizza poll.

Yerac, Thursday, 11 October 2018 18:54 (five years ago) link

But I also don't care for rice, potatoes, soups, stews and chocolate...

Yerac, Thursday, 11 October 2018 18:56 (five years ago) link

I have previously said that I don't care for any burgers or steak and have been told that I haven't had a decent burg or steak yet, this may happen again.

mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Thursday, 11 October 2018 19:15 (five years ago) link

I would guess that someone who doesn’t care for average steak would care even less for very good steak

I have measured out my life in coffee shop loyalty cards (silby), Thursday, 11 October 2018 19:17 (five years ago) link

I have had delicious burgers and steaks but it is probably 3-5% of the ones I have had in my life. Most are pretty bleh.

Yerac, Thursday, 11 October 2018 19:22 (five years ago) link

I think I just got irrationally angry at the amount of bad burgers I have had in my life.

Yerac, Thursday, 11 October 2018 19:25 (five years ago) link

I feel like most of the time i know when I'm ordering a good burger.

If I order a mediocre burger it's usually scratching a meat craving itch and I know what I'm getting (or not getting rather).

Rarely order steak out. Just so easy to do well at home, and there's always tends to be something more interesting on the menu.

Ctrl+Alt+Del in Poughkeepsie (fionnland), Thursday, 11 October 2018 19:28 (five years ago) link

Totally agreed on steak

droit au butt (Euler), Thursday, 11 October 2018 19:56 (five years ago) link

I may have agreed with you guys re: burgers until the past weekend. I was working at an outdoor food festival and an neighboring vendor brought us over a tray of burgers. The tray sat there about 30 mins then I picked one up and... omg. Transcendence. Fresh, quality beef cooked about medium with a great smoky/bbq taste. Two slices of american melted on top. Only other ingredient was just a few wisps of sliced red onion. Not even sure there were any liquid condiments. I hadn't had a great one in a while, but a burger can best the BEST THING.

rip van wanko, Thursday, 11 October 2018 20:18 (five years ago) link

Yeah im a burger guy

A good burger is orgasmic

But i love blood and i love meat

So a combo of both those things lathered all over me and I’m golden

F# A# (∞), Thursday, 11 October 2018 21:13 (five years ago) link

I love blood but most burgers are overcooked, seasonless, too huge pieces of meat. Burgers just remind me of depressed divorced dads, whack barbecues and fat-strong beardnecks.

Yerac, Friday, 12 October 2018 00:32 (five years ago) link

You’re goin to the wrong places

Man nyc is shittier than i thought
