you heff sunk my battlesheeeep-uh

Primus.

Full of bile and Blue Nile denial (Turrican), Tuesday, 13 March 2018 19:30 (six years ago) link

It would be tough to compete against them in a battle of the bands, it's true.

how's life, Tuesday, 13 March 2018 19:40 (six years ago) link

Tempted to vote for primus just for shits and giggles

josh az (2011nostalgia), Tuesday, 13 March 2018 20:31 (six years ago) link

My guess is that Faith No More and Primus will come out on top for this one. The Megadeth isn't bad and iirc beat Metallica to the "now I lay me down to sleep" recitation.

Will anyone vote Winger?

how's life, Tuesday, 13 March 2018 20:37 (six years ago) link

dunno how anyone who’s seen this movie could vote for anything other than ‘god gave rock ‘n’ roll to you’ tbh

i remember none of these songs other than the reaper rap and god gave r'n'r 2 u

i love this movie so much. i almost bought this CD at a used CD place once. i remember seeing "Reaper Rap" and thinking I want to hear that and some sweet Steve Vai shredding but never got it.

"God Gave Rock N Roll to You" is a pretty awesome song and a totally excellent way to close the film.

listening to this album right now. this is so fun!

"Shout It Out" feels like a Van Halen cover band doing Slade.

Hazy Maze Cave (Adam Bruneau), Tuesday, 13 March 2018 23:03 (six years ago) link

how can you not vote for kiss covering argent

kurt schwitterz, Tuesday, 13 March 2018 23:11 (six years ago) link

damn "God Gave Rock n Roll to You" is too good. well the verses are kinda meh but the never ending chorus is incredible. and the drop-out and multi layered vocals at 3:17 are so nice. kinda like Queen or Kansas just some sweet 70s classic rock harmonies.

someone should start a social media campaign to get Andrew W.K. to cover this song. he could do it in the third movie.

Hazy Maze Cave (Adam Bruneau), Tuesday, 13 March 2018 23:15 (six years ago) link

the original is way better but the kiss one works so well in that weird ass movie

my real pick would be teds recital of every rose has its thorn to st peter

kurt schwitterz, Tuesday, 13 March 2018 23:21 (six years ago) link

Megadeth song is pretty radical.

Faith No More song is a lol RHCP knock-off. still pretty sweet tho. i am loving the funk-punk/metal vibes on this album. its very 90s (via 70s).

even the lesser songs still have shredding guitar. i feel like every pizza joint should have a copy of this. this is vintage 1991.

of course Primus song comes on and i know within half a second. just this blast of noise. why are you playing so many notes!? listening to this i can imagine how Zappa-haters must feel.

Robert Tine, author of the Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey novelization, also did the novelizations of Universal Soldier and Last Action Hero.

Was 'melvin' a legitimate term for wedgie?

Oddly, though I like and liked stuff by a number of these artists, I don't recognize almost any of these tracks. (Only ever saw the first movie too.) Just listened to "The Reaper", which is not bad; I have a soft spot for this sort of thing. P restrained for Vai. Listening to "The Perfect Crime" now, which is p good.

I listened to both Living Colour and Queensrÿche earlier today btw.

No purposes. Sounds. (Sund4r), Wednesday, 14 March 2018 23:08 (six years ago) link

I still dip back into those first two Living Colour albums once or twice a year. Haven't listened to Queensryche since high school. I'll have to check in on them and see how everything has played out since all that drama a few years back.

KISS connections: I didn't know until just a few weeks ago that Mark Slaughter was the second lead singer for the Vinnie Vincent invasion.

IMO a lot more interesting than any 92-95 'grunge' soundtracks

Master of Treacle, Thursday, 15 March 2018 10:47 (six years ago) link

Just heard " Since You've Been Gone" by Rainbow, which is A+ AOR schlock. Looked up the details and it was written by Russ Ballard, who not only wrote a lot of Kiss stuff, like "God Gave Rock and Roll to You," as well as other lighter-waivers, but also was a member of Argent, which I didn't know. Also, he wrote "I Know There's Something Going On" for Frida!

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 15 March 2018 11:29 (six years ago) link

xp: I've got some pretty strong opinions about the Singles soundtrack but otherwise otm.

God Gave Rock and Roll to You was an Argent song originally iirc

had forgotten about the Faith No More song, which might get my vote now. piano intro kind of borrowed from This Town Ain't Big Enough For Both Of Us, 6 (?) years before they released a version of This Town Ain't... in collaboration with Sparks themselves

I watched the film a bunch of times aged 12-14 and have not dared watch it since even though I watch the first film every now and then for nostalgia value. maybe I should extend the same courtesy to Bogus Journey

a passing spacecadet, Thursday, 15 March 2018 12:51 (six years ago) link

it's still good imo! an entertainingly batshit/ambitious extension of the first one, and reeves and winter are super-charming

in conclusion, it is good to peel the sheeps (bizarro gazzara), Thursday, 15 March 2018 12:57 (six years ago) link

its cool how the Megadeth song was used as actual soundtrack music (and not just a song that's playing)

the scene where they take over his father's body at the police station right before he is about to brief a room full of cops is all-time hilarious. "Woah... donuts! Excellent!"

Feel like Perfect Crime is probably the Chuck Mosley-est Mike Patton song.

Oh fucking hell, I didn't even know Chuck died last fall.

Voted for King's X in the end.

I always enjoyed the appearance of Sir James Martin, head of the Faith No More Spiritual and Theological Center in the movie ... he'd be out of the band only a couple of years after the movie came out.
