I'm 99% sure that Cumberbatch and Hugh Laurie have the same voice coach teaching them how to speak american, and the end result is neither really sounds american but they do sound like each other

It's still fairly common to see British people listing "neutral accent" on their voice-acting CVs but obvs this is a regional accent.

However, i have been told that there is a "generic American" accent that is basically impossible to pin down to any one place, though idk how true that is.

it's basically a midwestern accent--like Ohio, Indiana, Missouri. Even that accent has its own eccentricities if you squint.

her accent is unique! i don't know why she sounds slightly australian to me but she does. she grew up in cherry hill, new jersey and then moved to the u.k. as a kid. maybe that gives you a unique hybrid voice. she does good amurrican farmgirl anyway.
