What is worse in life, to have your team have a terrible start and then rise to mediocre baseball or having them get to a good start and then slide slowly back to mediocre baseball?

the latter results in several more wins at the end of the season! which is good if the team barely squeaks into the playoffs, and for attendance. and bad in terms of the draft pick at the end of the season.

the latter results in two weeks of excitement! so that's cool

and in the pirates' specific case, it earns them some goodwill the franchise desperately needs (but doesn't really deserve) after an ugly offseason

Third baseman Jung Ho Kang has been granted a work visa to re-enter the United States and will rejoin the Pirates in the coming days.

Kang, 31, has not played for the club since being convicted of a third drunk-driving offense in South Korea in January 2017. Without a work visa, he was unable to play for the Pirates last season.

It’s not immediately clear how long it will take Kang to get in game shape or when he could be placed on the active roster.

Kang ended up missing the entire 2017 season. He did play briefly in the Dominican Winter League recently, but that stint was cut short when he failed to perform with his new team.

the unis are great but the throwback hats are terrible -- instead of wearing the real stovepipe caps they've just put lines around regular-style caps ugh
