Brook Lopez is the first player in NBA history listed at 7-feet or taller with 25 points and zero rebounds in a game.

reasonable point

Let's talk about confounding variables. In this case, minutes played is a confounding variable. When Westbrook plays fewer minutes, naturally he shoots less. And fewer minutes are almost always because of a Thunder blowout win (OKC is 10-2 when he plays less than 34 minutes). https://t.co/lw9PpeQomq

November: 48% (unsustainable)
December: 45% (unsustainable)
January: 34% (“Ha I knew he couldn’t shoot”)
February: 39% (ok and we’re good again)

watching a ton of those game he was def taking only the absolute best looks early on when he was running hot and then of course teams started paying him more attention and he started taking harder shots is part of the equation, by now hes prob taking 3s of about the quality you wld expect from a ~40% from 3 role player

lag∞n, Monday, 19 March 2018 21:15 (six years ago) link

it is interesting tho with his good shooting he still seems more interested in attacking the closeout than hoisting

lag∞n, Monday, 19 March 2018 21:16 (six years ago) link

that's the correct instinct

they call me melo gelo (Spottie), Monday, 19 March 2018 21:18 (six years ago) link

agreed, i havent dug into the numbers but it seems like hes been pretty effective at attacking the basket, also when pulling up from midrange, hes got a ton of tools man kid is going to be good

huh, maybe trying to reduce back-to-backs hasn't helped much.

circles, Tuesday, 3 April 2018 02:13 (six years ago) link

I'm skeptical that reducing back to backs had a negative effect, but it's possible. probably just a random blip...for instance, it seems like an unusual number of stars - who use the most minutes - either got hurt early in the season or started the season injured. also we know teams are being more cautious about playing guys who aren't 100% in general it seems

k3vin k., Tuesday, 3 April 2018 02:25 (six years ago) link

feel like shit like reducing back to backs is parity at best with increased explosion by amazing athletes. the number of games has to go down.

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 3 April 2018 02:40 (six years ago) link

def

k3vin k., Tuesday, 3 April 2018 02:45 (six years ago) link

also the style of play is so demanding these days between increased pace and thibs style overloading the strong side D guys are covering way more ground per game than they used to
