aww geezus man. that was my biggest fear after my last wreck. the stress of two back to back in short time is hard to deal with.

glad you're ok, but sorry you have another PITA in your life

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 5 March 2018 21:28 (six years ago) link

thank you guys <3

so stressful. i'm stressed out of my mind. because i am a serial procastinator i hadn't yet put my new car under the policy, i thought i was within a 30-day grace period but the period is only 14 days, so my insurance co doesn't want to pay for it. im trying to work something out with them but FUCK ARE YOU SERIOUS ugh

i feel like im gonna post in the lump thread. everything sucks right now, this is such a burden that i don't feel like i can handle becaues a whole bunch of other shit is happening that i can't deal with

marcos, Monday, 5 March 2018 21:32 (six years ago) link

life is stressful and expensive

marcos, Monday, 5 March 2018 21:32 (six years ago) link

agreed :(

So what happened?

rb (soda), Monday, 5 March 2018 22:05 (six years ago) link

made a left hand turn and didn't see a car turning right from the curb lane. wasn't going fast but the collision was a slow deep grind

marcos, Monday, 5 March 2018 22:07 (six years ago) link

ugh, I'm sorry, marcos

for what it's worth I had nearly a decade of no car drama (outside of a poor raccoon that popped up on the interstate) and once I got a different car several years ago, I had *three* incidents within one year.

one was purely me and caused no damage to the other car, one was a dumb parking lot thing where I was 3/4 of the way out of the spot and stopped looking in the rearview just long enough for a lady to back out where I was moving, and for the coup de grace, I had my car parked on the street and someone sideswiped my front fender overnight and left no note

it's been smooth sailing since then, so maybe it's a jinxed period of time. it'll stop!

mh, Monday, 5 March 2018 22:49 (six years ago) link

ha definitely feels jinxed for sure

one good thing is that I read my insurance policy and the guy I talked to was most certainly wrong in telling me that the new car wasn't covered yet

marcos, Monday, 5 March 2018 23:48 (six years ago) link

I was right on the 30 days

marcos, Monday, 5 March 2018 23:49 (six years ago) link

get on that quicker in the future!

I think when I got this car I was paranoid enough about it that I’d logged into my insurance company’s website and added the new car to my policy by the time they’d finished pulling it around for pickup at the dealer

mh, Monday, 5 March 2018 23:52 (six years ago) link

lol i did that

fuck the NRA (Neanderthal), Monday, 5 March 2018 23:54 (six years ago) link

buddy it’s the US of A, you have one thing happen when you’re not covered on some sort of insurance and you’re fucked for life

well more so on health insurance but point stands

mh, Monday, 5 March 2018 23:58 (six years ago) link

good news! Perhaps you could have avoided this accident and the resulting spike in stress if you were a stressed out, ultra-cautious driver. However, the sum of that ultra-cautious driving stress may be greater than that for a responsible, but reasonably chill driver that has a small accident from time to time. In this way, you have optimized a small part of your life.

lol thank you sufjan

it all still sucks but thank fucking christ that the insurance company will pay for everything

marcos, Tuesday, 6 March 2018 15:49 (six years ago) link

great news on the insurance, glad you're OK also

sleeve, Tuesday, 6 March 2018 16:29 (six years ago) link

I backed our truck out the other day and unwittingly almost hit our other car because I had stupidly parked it in a different part of the driveway. that would have been great, two for the price of one. it was so close, 2-3 inches.

Not me, but my cousin was t-boned today in downtown Cleveland by someone who ran a red light. According to her mom "{X} is good, headache, we are waiting to see if any scans of head are needed. Will probably need to bury the Toyota. {X} was hit and spun around so much her glasses flew off her face and thru the broken passenger window. Thank gosh she was on the passenger side and not the drivers."

car accidents are so terrifying

She's getting married this summer and I dread the thought of her dealing with lingering pain at her own wedding.

my wife grew up in L.A. and didn't drive around too much, but i grew up in the country and everyone i knew was driving around all the time. i knew 4 people in high school who were killed in car accidents and it was always some ridiculous stupidity late at night. driving 90 MPH down a stretch of road and losing control and hitting a tree and that sort of thing. my best friend in HS died that way. my other best friend, his just-ex GF died that way.

i sort of hate cars but where I'm at it's inescapable, and i think i've turned into such a Sunday driver, especially when I'm with my kid (as one should expect!) sometimes i get a tailgater when my kid's in the back and i tell him to raise his hands up high and wave them around so the person behind me actually knows there's a kid with me. surprisingly it mostly works. less surprisingly, sometimes it doesn't.

the worst time to drive in L.A. is after 11 PM and it gets worst throughout the night. drunk drivers own the road after 2 AM around here, even w/Uber and Lyft.

omar little, Thursday, 8 March 2018 17:53 (six years ago) link

is it dumb for me to assume that a lot of uber/lyft drivers drive drunk

brimstead, Thursday, 8 March 2018 17:56 (six years ago) link

none of the people I know who have driven have, but who knows

mh, Thursday, 8 March 2018 18:22 (six years ago) link

also some irl experiences

marcos, Thursday, 8 March 2018 18:28 (six years ago) link

i literally almost had another one on the way home.

Big assed semi starts to creep across to the median as I'm approaching in the left lane.

i am thinking there is no way he's going to try and pop in front of me as I would basically have to hard brake the tailgater behind me which would be a disaster in the making. so i kept going

fucker actually inches into my lane as I am approaching the same area.... like he thought I was going to stop for him. then he stops. i stupidly reflexively started to move to the right lane before seeing there was someone in it.

swerved back and was fine. and dumb semi driver then reversedhis truck back into the gas station in
