xp

Maybe he's just trying to reassure the Libyans who live there.

I just idly googled Tommy Rock, bubblegum Fowley collaborator, and he has a homemade web site with a MAGA hat on it.

How has MES gone missing from this entire thread?

Anyway a lot of these sound less like actual political opinions and more like persona-building provocations. As an affectation that douche's opinion on Medicare or whatever is probably doing the same work as his his cigarette holder.

Not complaining, I'm just figuring out
How everything left us behind
I got my problems, I'm aware of them
I'll take care of them, never you mind

You're still repeating prerecorded things
They used to say in universities and
Books on left-wing politics and law
About underlying structures that
So far as they mean anything
Still won't support the personal
Connections that you draw

Institutionalized misogyny
That's all that stands between
My baby and me

Whoo!

Now science tells us I'm hardwired to
I'm required to, do it with you
'cause I'm a man, and you're a woman
And that's what those kind of people do

I stole that line from Woody Allen
Isn't it amusing? I wish
I could make you understand
What Woody Allen meant
If there's no such thing as
Objective reality, why can't we quit
Our jobs and just imagine we won't
Have to pay the rent?

Institutionalized misogyny
That's why they're charging rent
To my baby and me

Michelle, ma belle: Ton beau
Michel Foucault
A Foucault dependence
Always ready to go

I think we're alone
I might have known (ooh!)
She's got Chomsky on the phone

Institutionalized misogyny
That's all that stands between
My baby and me
My baby and me
My baby and me

Tobin Sprout of GBV, at the very best bi-conservaturious.

Van Horn Street, Saturday, 3 March 2018 23:26 (six years ago) link

GBV as a whole seem pretty conservative at least with a small c tbh.

obnoxious pun (ultros ultros-ghali), Sunday, 4 March 2018 11:16 (six years ago) link

A couple of Dictators have lost their minds on social media with their conservative views.

Dick Manitoba has become fiercely Zionist and was anti-Obama, pro-Netinyahu and very pro-Trump. A couple years ago be blocked me on Facebook when I explained why I thought Netanyahu was a neocon warmonger who did not help Israel and pointed out that I did so as a Jew (on mom's side even though dad's last name is far from Jewish) and before he blocked me he sent me a message that I was the kind of jew they threw in the ovens.

Also Ross The Boss is a notorious pro-Trump derp. My run in on Facebook was a little less contentious - he called me a "shitbird" when I said something about Trump he didn't like on a mutual friend's page. I guess it makes more sense when you consider he was in Manowar too.

Manitoba was also recently arrested on charges of third-degree assault, criminal mischief and attempted strangulation, sounds like an all around great guy there.

over the weekend i saw someone on FB mention that sub pop bloke, Eric Matthews, is a Trump supporter and puts crap on his timeline.
they weren't wrong.

mark e, Monday, 5 March 2018 10:36 (six years ago) link

his twitter activity is sparse but comes correct with the Ben Garrison and PJW retweets plus this entirely indefensible controp

Dick Dale:

And it's not just the music Dale prefers from back in the [1930s]. "Things were much better back then, you didn't have a deficit," he says. "The greedy, money-hungry people that run this government now [May 2016], that's why they don't want Donald Trump near them. They're scared he'll come in and kick out the freeloaders. Trump isn't going to take that crap."

Well that's rich.

Sam Weller, Monday, 5 March 2018 10:56 (six years ago) link

that's really sad. i like "it's heavy in here" a lot. :(

ziggy the ginhead (rushomancy), Monday, 5 March 2018 14:14 (six years ago) link

Matthews has been garbage for years; he was spouting shit back last decade. So he's just gotten worse.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 5 March 2018 14:17 (six years ago) link

Yeah, it put me off even getting anything past "Fanfare"

Actually, what put me off more, was when I picked up the album and track 1 was "Fanfare" and track (last) was "Fanfare (reprise)" and I thought "Sounds like only one great track then"

Mark G, Monday, 5 March 2018 14:19 (six years ago) link

ah that sucks about matthews, i like his stuff...

this is so fucking tragic, this is the same guy who's literally out there touring with his declining body because he has no retirement or health care because this country sucks so much, yet he's worried about these fictional "freeloaders"

Yeah and hate to harp on DiNizio but he also crowdsourced his healthcare while simultaneously being libertarian

Yup. Dick is supposedly *doubly* insured but still incurs monthly $3,000 medical bills.

Ever since the various FB shares revealed this years ago I've chosen to ignore this fact, kind of like how I ignore it when getting together with similarly minded family. Tobin always reminded me of my Ohio cousins etc. anyway.

Evan, Monday, 5 March 2018 16:57 (six years ago) link

xpost considering the shitty coordination policies of lots of plans, that's not surprising (albeit infuriating). Often secondary plans have "non-duplication of benefits" rules so instead of just picking up the rest of the tab, they will only pay the difference between what the primary plan paid, and what the secondary plan would have paid if they had been the primary plan. so that could mean if Plan A (Medicare or whomever) paid 80%, and Plan b normally pays 90%, Plan B only adds an additional 10%.

so you could be paying expensive premiums for two plans and STILL be responsible for 10% of your medical costs, which if you're old and have a chronic ailment that requires any kind of expensive recurring inpatient or outpatient care, can add up to excruciating totals.

re: dick dale - that sort of thing reminds me of when people quote william s. burroughs to try and prove how horrible gun control is. people, i don't care how good a book naked lunch is, a guy who shot and killed his wife is not a persuasive argument _against_ gun control.

ziggy the ginhead (rushomancy), Tuesday, 6 March 2018 02:33 (six years ago) link

yeah Matthews is a fucking weirdo. sounds like he's gotten even worse. he friended me on FB at one point (I have no idea why) and I dumped him when he started getting really weird. I mean he's not so much just a conservative but like, a fucking crazy person.

i mean, not to say that all crazy people are conservative, but aren't we at the point where it's safe to say that there are no non-crazy conservatives left in america?

ziggy the ginhead (rushomancy), Tuesday, 6 March 2018 02:54 (six years ago) link

jeff flake? mccain? romney? these guys are conservative and not insane racists.

i mean, they might be the only 3 left, but you know what I'm saying.

akm, Tuesday, 6 March 2018 02:58 (six years ago) link

all the Ariel p/JM stuff is either in their individual threads or lost in one of the monthly politics threads

yeah Ariel Pink got excoriated in some other thread recently, or two even.
