i fill the coffeemaker up to the 8

4 regular scoops, 2 heaping scoops

i think the scoop holds a tablespoon? will check.

this makes 4 cups. use this same ratio when i make less coffee

Mr. Que, Wednesday, 20 May 2009 15:18 (fourteen years ago) link

thanks mr que but i don't think i can even learn

fantazy land (harbl), Wednesday, 20 May 2009 15:19 (fourteen years ago) link

no you can - i have faith

Mr. Que, Wednesday, 20 May 2009 15:19 (fourteen years ago) link

you need coffee

Mr. Que, Wednesday, 20 May 2009 15:19 (fourteen years ago) link

nothing makes me distrust people more than when they don't like coffee--i can even (barely) forgive someone for not liking Creedence, but coffee. . .??

Mr. Que, Wednesday, 20 May 2009 15:20 (fourteen years ago) link

i don't really like creedence mr que i mean it's ok it's just not me

i like coffee if someone else makes it but that gets kind of $$$

fantazy land (harbl), Wednesday, 20 May 2009 15:20 (fourteen years ago) link

okay i'm going to take a deep breath here and reevaluate

Mr. Que, Wednesday, 20 May 2009 15:21 (fourteen years ago) link

one mistake was this week i got 8 o'clock garbage coffee and it's like ground up pennies or something, but it was bad before that

fantazy land (harbl), Wednesday, 20 May 2009 15:25 (fourteen years ago) link

oh geez--do you mean chock full of nuts? my #1 piece of advice=buy the very best coffee you can afford. like buy the shit that smells like drugs. it should be a rich blackish color, not pale brown maxwell house shit

Mr. Que, Wednesday, 20 May 2009 15:26 (fourteen years ago) link

i fill the coffeemaker up to the 8

4 regular scoops, 2 heaping scoops

That's some strong coffee!

Also, can even (barely) forgive someone for not liking Creedence, but coffee. . .?? = LOL

i like irish coffee

velko, Wednesday, 20 May 2009 15:28 (fourteen years ago) link

it's strong, but not too strong. no one has ever complained (besides mother in law, who just jokes about it). it's not bitter, either.

Mr. Que, Wednesday, 20 May 2009 15:29 (fourteen years ago) link

i like strong, black, not acidic, chocolaty-ish

fantazy land (harbl), Wednesday, 20 May 2009 15:30 (fourteen years ago) link

i get compliments all the time, when people drink my coffee

Mr. Que, Wednesday, 20 May 2009 15:30 (fourteen years ago) link

harbl i think you might like the whole foods pacific rim or pleasant morning buzz.

i am almost out of my giant stash of bladucci's beans but i guess that's ok bc i am moving to a good coffee city.

one thing: always buy beans and grind yr own.
also i get compliments.
also always buy beans and grind yr own. it's really gross, the reason (incidentally i heard this on terry gross' show!).

ricardos montalban (tehresa), Wednesday, 20 May 2009 15:39 (fourteen years ago) link

i got a bialetti and i think i just hit the sweet spot cuz i have been makin some really great not-actually-espresso recently

rip dom passantino 3/5/09 never forget (max), Wednesday, 20 May 2009 15:40 (fourteen years ago) link

pleasant morning buzz is what we jam at our house

Mr. Que, Wednesday, 20 May 2009 15:41 (fourteen years ago) link

jam on, friend.

ricardos montalban (tehresa), Wednesday, 20 May 2009 15:41 (fourteen years ago) link

i make coffee strong, but half it with warm milk, then add nutmeg and honey in the evening.

i'll drink it black in the mornings tho.

U2 raped goat (darraghmac), Wednesday, 20 May 2009 15:42 (fourteen years ago) link

wait what is the reason? am i brewing coffee made of ground up bugs or poop? xp

fantazy land (harbl), Wednesday, 20 May 2009 15:43 (fourteen years ago) link

pleasant morning poop

velko, Wednesday, 20 May 2009 15:43 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah, ground up cockroaches mixed in with yo beans :(

ricardos montalban (tehresa), Wednesday, 20 May 2009 15:43 (fourteen years ago) link

i don't grind my beans--i buy preground or grind at the store. bug poop never hurt anyone

Mr. Que, Wednesday, 20 May 2009 15:44 (fourteen years ago) link

i have been grinding my own lately but usually i don't. it makes a mess and is not very consistent grind. i have a cheap krups coffee grinder. i don't know where whole foods is but maybe i have to go there. why can't i just go to safeway?! geez what an ordeal

fantazy land (harbl), Wednesday, 20 May 2009 15:44 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah i like to store grind, works ok imo

fantazy land (harbl), Wednesday, 20 May 2009 15:44 (fourteen years ago) link

do not buy coffee at safeway

Mr. Que, Wednesday, 20 May 2009 15:45 (fourteen years ago) link

i think eating a ground up cockroach is pretty safe though

fantazy land (harbl), Wednesday, 20 May 2009 15:45 (fourteen years ago) link

que if you grind at the store from whole beans you should be ok. it's that the beans that are being ground and pre-packaged sit in the processing areas/warehouses and bugs get in (kind of unavoidable).

i have a mr. coffee grinder and it has worked like a dream for like 9 years!

ricardos montalban (tehresa), Wednesday, 20 May 2009 15:46 (fourteen years ago) link

ive always hated coffee. i cant even stand the smell. it seems like it probably tastes like licking Arnold Schwarzenegger's armpit circa 1987.

still LOLs @ 'so you can look cool in front of your mates' though

I wish I was the royal trux (sunny successor), Wednesday, 20 May 2009 15:47 (fourteen years ago) link

i have a feeling we eats lots of bugs anyway--it's unavoidable

Mr. Que, Wednesday, 20 May 2009 15:47 (fourteen years ago) link

oh yeah i have never bought pre-ground especially because i french press and it's not coarse enough then

fantazy land (harbl), Wednesday, 20 May 2009 15:47 (fourteen years ago) link

i knew i could count on IRE for culinary advice ;-)

fantazy land (harbl), Wednesday, 20 May 2009 15:47 (fourteen years ago) link

so the reason they talked about it on this gross show was because the guest had a colleague who had developed a cockroach allergy (apparently all people will with enough exposure) and could no longer drink coffee unless it was from freshly ground beans (not preground) and so he made dude drive all over the place to find fresh ground coffee when they were out on trips doing research or whatever. maybe it was just a cruel joke from boss to employee?

ricardos montalban (tehresa), Wednesday, 20 May 2009 15:48 (fourteen years ago) link

about to drink some safeway coffee right now!!

liberal temporary supreme leader (darraghmac), Tuesday, 16 June 2009 14:16 (fourteen years ago) link

I have trouble finding the right balance of coffee and sugar(I tend to make it too sweet). Out of convenience, I buy Starbucks' ground coffee. I know there are a lot of specialty coffee brands available online, but I have no idea what's good and what's pedestrian-to-terrible.

i can't stand coffee w/ sugar for some reason

harbl, Tuesday, 16 June 2009 14:36 (fourteen years ago) link

Do you mean you like coffee black, or with a sugar-substitute (like Splenda)?

Daniel, Esq., Tuesday, 16 June 2009 14:43 (fourteen years ago) link

coffee w/sugar is for children

i want to marry a pizza (gbx), Tuesday, 16 June 2009 14:47 (fourteen years ago) link

I can't stand coffee with sugar either. And I don't mean because I have a sugar-substitute instead.

Colonel Poo, Tuesday, 16 June 2009 14:47 (fourteen years ago) link

unless it is iced coffee, i guess

i want to marry a pizza (gbx), Tuesday, 16 June 2009 14:47 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah, black. i only ever put milk in it if it tastes burnt (like if it is from starbucks). if there's sugar in it i can't finish it at all.

harbl, Tuesday, 16 June 2009 14:48 (fourteen years ago) link

I use 1% milk but never sugar.

Fennec fox which does grooming (ENBB), Tuesday, 16 June 2009 14:48 (fourteen years ago) link

Sometimes splenda but that's only if I'm having it as a dessert or something.

Fennec fox which does grooming (ENBB), Tuesday, 16 June 2009 14:49 (fourteen years ago) link

u could prob find good coffee locally that is not starbucks btw--my friend orders from deansbeans.com in MA but if you don't buy enough at a time the shipping can cost as much as the coffee. whole foods is not convenient to get to but i went to different grocery store and found some that is good and costs the same as safeway crap. i am happy now. the last few weeks i have been just wanting to take a nap all day :(

Re pour-over "systems:" are these noticeably different from, say, a Chemex or one of these?

Orson Wellies (in orbit), Thursday, 25 June 2015 14:19 (eight years ago) link

i think the difference comes from the filtering mechanism i.e. is it paper or cloth or metal

, Thursday, 25 June 2015 15:28 (eight years ago) link

everything else is just marketing
