i know this is a little bit of a mess even under the whole "new wave was also considered to be 'punk' back when both were initially evolving" qualifier, but it's still a better "punk" compilation than those pop-punk/metalcore "punk goes..." comps fearless has been using to fleece scene teens for two decades
also DEVO & The B-52s are legitimately credible purveyors of 'fun'/'quirky' post-punk/new wave and the lapsed goth in me is obligated to approve of love and rockets' presence
the boy looks oddly like a punk designed by jim henson though

When you know every song at a glance on a list but exactly ONE. This one’s for you Phil Seymour, whatever the fuck you it was you sang.

Whenever "Rock Lobster" is listed in a poll, it's almost always the right choice

Iirc, I voted for "Don't Dream It's Over" last time. I voted for "Jenny (867-3509)" this time, for variety.

I liked how they referenced it in iZombie.
Going with "She Blinded Me With Science"
― that's not my post, Tuesday, 20 February 2018 05:16 (six years ago) link
I went with Be Near Me - I didn't realise that it was one of ABC's biggest hits in the US
what is most incongruously not-punk thing here? Don't Dream It's Over maybe? (I like that song though)

And We Danced - The Hooters
I have never heard this song in my life
― had (crüt), Sunday, 25 February 2018 00:54 (six years ago) link
I love almost every song on this comp and if I needed a compilation in my life I would buy this one.
No punk on here as far as I can see, but I'd say the most punkesque are My Sharona and Stray Cats. (In the sense of loosest arrangements and most driving straight beats.)
"Rock the Casbah," "Kids in America," and "I Eat Cannibal" were on the charts at the same time as a lot of this material. Now THOSE I might admit to the punk pantheon, but just barely.

I don't think I've heard this before, either, although it sounds like a lot of things I've heard. I do remember the Hooters' existence. I know AOR/mainstream rock playlists from the late 80s like the back of my hand but this was probably a few years too ealry.

This is between 'Whip It' and 'Be Near Me', and I went with the latter because not only is it ABC's best single but it's underrated as fuck.
