Also I like some of Sera Cahoone's solo stuff from recent years...

more love for carissas. they were cream of the crop when it came to sadcore. i love playing violin along to them. 'you should be at home here' is very consistent and even their b sides and covers were lovely and full of personality. i hear they were a good laugh and not moody at all offstage.

five years pass...

revisiting everyone down here for its 20th birthday. probably haven't heard it in 19 years. it's really good! their earlier material -iirc- was a lot noisier and fucked up and this album was like the shift from b+w to color. the usual turn of the century indie touchstones are all still relevant: "oh they must really dig pet sounds!", squalling feedback meets 70s pop piano because sure we can do that, "oh it's kinda dream poppy in places, isn't it?", etc etc.

it was right around the same time that i started working at tower records and someone hipped me to a charalambides cassette. earlimart seemed quaint by comparison and i never looked back. dunno why that sticks out to me, but anyway. they were good... too bad a lotta that palm pictures stuff is in limbo presently. wonder where the main dude fron the band ended up.
