Spodee Boy from Nashville

They're post-Beefheart punk, so they remind me of the Fall and Devo (most writers on the band point to Devo as an influence, but they're almost closer to Trout Mask and Decals-era Beefheart). Cummins says he's influenced by the UV Race, Aussies doing Germs-Misfits punk. He looks like some rockabilly star--Conway Twitty merged with P.J. Proby. When I saw them they played an instrumental that sounded like Man (no one would get the reference today, so I've got to resist the urge to compare them to Man when I write their show up this morning for Nashville Scene), and then they hit a harder groove and Cummins jumped on stage and did his act. I've been friends with Steve Poulton for years and he'd told me about the band, and he was right. They're breaking up after their final show at Third Man March 10. They have an EP out, hear it here.
