i feel like ranting about salt lake city and this is as good a place as any. actually, it's more the suburbs south of salt lake. they are like the most hardcore suburbs ever. all of the land use is dictated by the most empty, soulless priorities you can imagine, or maxed out in that direction with NOTHING in the "friendly and livable" column. in order to function here you have to have access to a car. the amount of time you spend in your car traversing these endless mazes of parking lots and connecting gates and entry/exit streams is insane.

also, the conservative culture here is frightening and grim. you get a sense of how mindless the people are who default into it. but most of all it's stomach-churning to think about all these people choosing to live this kind of life, which is akin in my mind to self-administering a small amount of poison every day, and seeing it as "normal" or "virtuous" when it's actually highly unnatural and malicious. it's hard to be here. i'm dealing with it but a big priority for me right now is to get somewhere else. a very outdoorsy western town with some diversity would be nice, if that exists.

I've been curious about #1 ever since I realized I'm very likely on the spectrum, because the prohibitive social and psychosexual difficulties that has entailed has directly contributed to my seeking out escorts. I guess I just wonder how common that is.
