The corollary is to mute people as soon as YOU annoy THEM in any way. That leaves them screaming into the void.
― Millennial Whoop, wanna fight about it? (Phil D.), Friday, 9 February 2018 19:29 (six years ago) link
Ironically one of the best phrases to mute is "echo chamber"
― scrüt (wins), Friday, 9 February 2018 19:30 (six years ago) link
That's a tweet
the only reason to check unfollowers is if you want to be upset
― mookieproof, Friday, 9 February 2018 19:33 (six years ago) link
wait people check that stuff? lord. no. never.
― Simon H., Friday, 9 February 2018 19:34 (six years ago) link
I sometimes like to think nobody can see my tweets and it's like yelling out the back door of my home when I have an idea
― mh, Friday, 9 February 2018 19:35 (six years ago) link
i don't even know how to check that. but maura otm sometimes you unfollow and people are @ing you like 20 minutes later??
― illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Friday, 9 February 2018 19:36 (six years ago) link
unfollowing sometimes makes people fucking crazy. blocking too. that's why muting is the way to go
― maura, Friday, February 9, 2018 2:27 PM (five minutes ago) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink
whenever ppl unfollow me im all it mustve been the constant stream of bad tweets, on a side note with twitter being so algorithmic and showing so many tweets from ppl you dont follow and so forth i wonder if it affects the feed differently to mute or unfollow, soft block is always also an option too less likely to get caught than the straight unfollow but if you are oh boy, u can try to blame the unfollow bug i guess but idk if ppl are still falling for that
― lag∞n, Friday, 9 February 2018 19:37 (six years ago) link
how do you even know tho??
― illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Friday, 9 February 2018 19:39 (six years ago) link
just when u go to their profile to look at all their tweets and the follows you badge isnt there, tho some ppl prob use an app which is psychotic
― lag∞n, Friday, 9 February 2018 19:41 (six years ago) link
sometimes its a blessing tho when you notice a mutual unfollowed you cause you wanted to unfollow them but were too polite
pretty sure there's at least one third party site/app that takes a snapshot of your followers on either an interval or when you check it, and says "this person added, these people left"
pretty insane
― mh, Friday, 9 February 2018 19:42 (six years ago) link
I use muting like a timeout. Tweetbot can do 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, forever. Say @brokentoothfacebluewhat won’t shut up about daylight saving time, I mute them for a week. Especially if I generally like them otherwise.
― Jeff, Friday, 9 February 2018 19:49 (six years ago) link
daylight savings time is an important topic tho
― lag∞n, Friday, 9 February 2018 19:50 (six years ago) link
some ppl are bad at discussing it properly
― mh, Friday, 9 February 2018 19:53 (six years ago) link
its important to engage with voices across the ideological spectrum
― lag∞n, Friday, 9 February 2018 19:54 (six years ago) link
what if they have the exact same views as me but say them real bad
― mh, Friday, 9 February 2018 19:55 (six years ago) link
wld recommend a soft block

They’ve banned Strange Animals and Round Boys - presumably on the basis that they were both posting copyrighted photos of wildlife. If that’s something they’re going to crack down on properly, they’re going to have their work cut out.

As part of our ongoing effort to streamline our apps and provide a more consistent and up-to-date Twitter experience across platforms, we are no longer supporting the Twitter for Mac app. On Friday February 16, we announced through @TwitterSupport that the app is no longer available for download, and starting March 16th will no longer be supported. But, not to worry, for the full Twitter experience on your Mac, visit Twitter on web. Twitter

https://www.fastcompany.com/40547818/did-we-create-this-monster-how-twitter-turned-toxic
For all the ways in which the Imposter Buster saga is unique, it’s also symptomatic of larger issues that have long bedeviled Twitter: abuse, the weaponizing of anonymity, bot wars, and slow-motion decision making by the people running a real-time platform. These problems have only intensified since Donald Trump became president and chose Twitter as his primary mouthpiece. The platform is now the world’s principal venue for politics and outrage, culture and conversation–the home for both #MAGA and #MeToo.
This status has helped improve the company’s fortunes. Daily usage is up a healthy 12% year over year, and Twitter reported its first-ever quarterly profit in February, capping a 12-month period during which its stock doubled. Although the company still seems unlikely ever to match Facebook’s scale and profitability, it’s not in danger of failing. The occasional cries from financial analysts for CEO Jack Dorsey to sell Twitter or from critics for him to shut it down look more and more out of step.
